Per your guys’ comments on the kicker, two thoughts:
Our long snapper is Derek Gaul? He’s a heckuva receiver. Our holder is our starting QB?
INSANITY, IMHO.
The snap and hold are critical parts to the kicking game. They have to work in perfect sync, and practice makes perfect. We should have a good enough program to have a SPECIALIST long snapper or two on the roster who can back up at center, OL, FB, LB, etc.
The holder should be a guy who has time to do enough reps with the snapper and K in practice, so that it’s lights out on Saturdays. We’re one injury away from a backup holder, not the ideal situation.
With good teams — as we learned two or three years ago — three points per game can be difference between playoffs and no playoffs.
