Nick Lovullo, SS, Holy Cross was taken in the 35th round
Lovullo, also a rising senior hit .218, .266 and .278 with 4 homers over 3 years. He did lead the Crusaders in HBP with 11. Why would all those teams pass over the District 1 POY to get to him unless Garz got the word out that he is not coming our early?
MLB scouts are not influenced a whole lot by college stats and awards. It’s not uncommon to see something like this happen, since it’s more about tools and how a team’s scouts view potential. The teams passed on him because they thought there were other players with more potential. In any event, Garzillo did get drafted – by the Yankees on the 38th round. I would expect to see him get a very low offer and return for his senior year.
