I have not read all these posts, but I’m reading John Feinstein’s “The Last Amateurs.”

Just got to Page 112 where he describes — in the first year of schollies –Lafayette maintained the tradition of informal postgame receptions (after showering, etc.) where fans and players gather to discuss the game.

He explains that the players of that time were not like the “pro athletes” on other campuses: The PL kids at the time were totally integrated with their non-hoops classmates, studied in libraries with them, partied with them, etc. Thus, the students knew the basketball players well and went to root for them.

Would postgame receptions work? Who knows … different times …?
