I saw only a little bit of the game, but enough of it to get so depressed I turned it off at halftime.

I’ve read all of your comments on two threads.

Some of my own.

1) IT IS EARLY. Chalk this game up as an expensive exhibition game. Only way to get to the playoffs now is to run the PL, which is possible. Lehigh hasn’t consistently played well in the first game in a long time.

2) DEFENSE: Seems like the same old story. DCs who give up 400 yards per game don’t last long, except apparently at Lehigh. Sadly, I can’t imagine Saturday was an anomaly. Disappointing, but O did not help much in first half.

3) OFFENSE: Clearly out of sync. With a three-year starter and captain at QB, there are high expectations. As a leader, he must fix things on the field and set an example. Hopefully he needs help from coaching staff in learning how to do so. It’s like real life; I hope he succeeds here and takes that into his career. I think he can do it consistently, especially if LU can integrate the Mayes weapon into game planning. Ultimately, you succeed or someone else gets a chance.

4) CECCHINI: Valpo program is and was awful. I’m not sure anyone can turn it around. The Lutheran college has got to face some huge recruiting challenges for many reasons. Cecc has not proven yet he’s HC material. I hope he gets more time at Valpo. He might have been to go-to guy a few years ago if Coen were to leave, but not now. Probably better as an OC.

5) COEN: I like Andy, but was critical when O stunk before Cecc hired. If D doesn’t turn itself around in next few weeks, and Botts stays, AC needs to go. You can give a coach (DC or HC) only so much leash. THIS MUST BE THE YEAR FOR A CHAMPIONSHIP. How often do we have a three-year starter at QB and so many other quality returnees?

6) THE FUTURE: The continued lack of attendance at sporting events — as I’ve written before here — is really troubling. The university must figure out what’s going on before it reaches a tipping point of no return. I think that’s pretty soon, if it hasn’t happened already.

How can Athletic Department make every home game as exciting as Lehigh-Lafayette?

Lack of attendance has got to affect recruiting, even if we’re doing better than others. What is the effect financially? What is the long-term game plan to increase attendance or … ? Has anyone studied this?
