Changes? Regardless of rhetoric, I dont see any simple cure alls for the D. Time, experience and added strength a no brainer for returning players. Coaching? Their responsibility. That inexperience issue is prevalent here with DC and most assts. 2nd year in this system or do we go to our 3rd new scheme in 3 years. Wholesale change in staff? Could that be the magic elixir? Dont know but doubt it.
Recruiting? Seems we bring in lots of talent on O most every year. Current verbals are stocked with OL,WRs and a 3* RB. We need that same level on D particularly on DL. Not much there yet and we dont have much room for many full ride offers.
I am really not clear on your view of the defensive problems. Isn’t strength and experience the responsibility of the coaching staff? Experience can be addressed by recruiting defensive players each class to have a balance of seniors, juniors and contributing sophomores and freshmen. Strength is a “want to” motivational issue. Recruiting and motivation are coaching issues.

We are not going to have the fifth and sixth year men luxury. We didn’t need it in the pre-scholarship era to recruit LB and D-line personnel to compete with the CAA. For those of us old enough to remember, this has become the Hank Small era. Explosive offenses because that’s what was recruited and awful, although better than this mess, defenses. If scholarship era has created only an either/or option, explosive offenses like Lehigh and Fordham or solid defenses like Lafayette, let’s go back to needs-based aid with larger numbers so we can recruit play makers on both sides of the ball. I believe that most of the P.L. coaches have not figured out how to properly recruit in the scholarship era. That can be addressed with proper coaching, either head coach or assistants.
