The way I am looking at next year is we have a known commodity in our back court, whether AP breaks right or not, we know what we have in the following guys who are all definitely returning next year: MM, CS, AD, and SC. We know what we have there, and those 4 alone are a top half PL Backcourt next year. If you throw in BJ, who is a 70/30 no/go in my opinion, you have a really good backcourt in the PL. DC still a wild card, but if he tore his ACL, odds he is ready to play before second semester next year are low, and when he does come back he won’t be ahead of any guard on the team, so he’ll be buried again. So, assuming nothing from BJ and DC, and AP as a wildcard, we can win some ball games with the guards we got next year.
To me, what is fascinating, is the frontcourt potential. It is going to be quite versatile, I think(again crapshoot). Another thing about that frontcourt, while it will be “young” in terms of what class everyone is in, it is not “young” in terms of age. Whitfield is a PG this year, in fact, he just turned 19 a few days ago, so he’ll play half his frosh year as a 20 year old. Also, from what I hear it is broken fibula, still no confirm on ligaments or not, but if its just fibula, he’ll be ready for preseason camp. JC, turns 20 in about 8 weeks, so he is old for his class as well. Obviously CB will be a JR, JG a true soph, and TK a true frosh. What excites me though is the potential versatility. I think JC can slide into the HG role, being perhaps a better rebounder but maybe a step down on the jump shooting ability. I think he is more athletic then HG from what I see, and perhaps has ability to guard the bigger 4’s better then HG cause of his 7’3 wingspan. I’m high on JC, but again, crapshoot. I think he has a versatile game in that he can get up and down in transistion and finish above the rim, while hitting an open jumper as well. SW, from what I have read, does a bit of everything, I envision more of a slasher/go to work with the ball in his hands and break down a big while attacking the rim..he and JC both have pretty broad frames, and good bodies for PL….both should be solid PL athletes. I think the jury is still out on JG, but man if we see more of what we saw vs HC, we got a nice little rebounding machine, a guy who gets 8 points a game and who the coach runs zero plays for, but cleans up the mess and gets his own on put backs….JG is so quick and long, and a really good athlete, his development is huge for the program, he could be really good by time he is down at LU. Then you got TK, son of a NBA player, still growing and filling out, but taller then GK and 227 lbs already. Labeled by espn as a good spot up shooter, will be interesting to see how he handles big boys down low and physicality of college game. Going into next year clearly we would need 2 of the SW, TK, JC trifecta to go right, and if 2 of the 3 go REALLY right, we should be in contention next year…Let’s say JC is immediate 10 ppg/5 rbg guy/25 mpg guy, that will be huge. Then hope you get something out of TK, in particular, and you got a pretty decent frontcourt. Tell you what, with JG, JC, and SW we’ll be pretty freeking athletic…will be fun, but next year is next year, and we got business to handle this year..I ain’t conceding sh*t to Bucknell, no one go off and crown their a** right now…
