I think the key is much like the Colgate game (and most): Limit mistakes, make big plays.
Moreover, Lafayette is the underdog and has played the spoiler all too often (once is more than enough) in the 45 years I’ve been following LU football.
Most years Tavani seems to have cards up his sleeves — trick plays, onside kicks early in the game, anything for a big play (LC usually has nothing to lose) — and he will get his kids worked up for a bigger win than the one over Fordham (given that Nebrich was out — yes, he is the real deal).
Lafayette does seem to be peaking, after an awful start.
I wonder how much more competitive Colgate, for example, would have been if it had not lost its 250-poubnd fullback Saturday in the first quarter. Lafayette shutout Colgate in the second half, I think.
D has to make it hairy for LC QB, and we can expect same on our end. It may well come down to a battle of the TANK running backs and which freshman QB makes fewer mistakes.
Weather’s not looking good — 40 percent chance of showers. I remember some nasty LU-LC weather days (but not rain) — so let’s hope it holds off …
Taunting was bad when I was in school, too — mostly via fights for the goalposts. And I mean bloody fights that would get you jailed today — over what? Some wood. Seems silly now.
