There were about 156 plays run and it came down to 3.
1) The inexcusable TD pass with 13 seconds left in the half. No EVER lets anyone get behind them at any cost. I am still in disbelief.
2) The muffed punt. Paris should know better. He got a late jump on the ball, looking into the sun, should never have attempted. I understand he may have thought he had a nice lane for great return, …IF he caught in stride, but….discretion is the better part of valor.
3) The INT on the next possession after getting great field position on the KO with penalty help.
Yes, we got pushed around, but giving up yardage is not the end-all in this game. It’s preventing scoring. The secondary plays so soft, the 10 yard down and out is there all day. Maybe we aren’t athletic enough to match up on man. At the same time, no secondary can stay with receivers for 5 seconds or more–especially with a future NFL QB throwing.
Championships are won with defense. The offense is fun, and you need some points, but if we are to get the AQ this year, the D will need to step it up significantly.
