Despite the obvious sports rivalries, Lehigh, Bucknell, and Lafayette have a relationship academically, athletically, and geographically that began in the early fifties in the old MAC and has evolved into an strong alliance. They are pretty much joined at the hip. Colgate joined this “alliance” in the seventies. Holy Cross a bit later. It would take some sort of sports armageddon for LU, BU, LC to leave for somewhere else without the other two. I’m not as sure about ‘gate & Cross, but I suspect they would feel the same way.
And by the way, does anyone remember the great old MAC football conference? Lehigh, Bucknell, Lafayette, Gettysburg, Delaware (with Tubby), Temple…and a few more….. when beating any Ivy League team or Colgate was quite an upset….
