After watching the win on Saturday, my daughter said to me ’12 and counting’
He will be back for a fifth year the same as the first four.November 19, 2009 at 5:48 am #1211As disappointed as I am with things, if LU wins Saturday, I could see AC coming back for another year, with a stacked deck of seniors and a solid corps of juniors and sophs next year.
Regardless of who coaches, it should be a team that wins a PL championship. Why not give Andy that one final shot? If I recall correctly, weren’t this year’s juniors AC’s first full recruiting class?

6-5, 5-6, 5-6. 3-8/4-7 – Simple! So far they have defeated Georgetown, Bucknell, and Fordham. WOW!
The other reason – Lehigh football shouldn’t become the best example of the definition of insanity!
(i.e. doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome!)November 19, 2009 at 6:25 pm #1214Andy has had 4 shots and he hasn’t gotten the job done. I am absolutely convinced this team has the talent to win the Patriot League championship. The only reason they are 3 -7 is because of poor coaching. Andy is a great guy but he hasn’t learned how to be a successful head coach. If he hasn’t figured it out in 4 years, there is no reason to believe that a 5th year is going to do the trick. When you choose coaching as your career, you know you are going to be judged by wins and losses. Andy had his shot and it is time for Lehigh to move on. I just hope Sterrett sees it that way regardless of whether we beat Lafayette.
November 19, 2009 at 8:45 pm #12156-5, 5-6, 5-6, 3-8/4-7 says it best. Not only hasn’t improvement been shown in 4 years, we’ve got worse. Could Year 5 produce a 2-9 season? I really don’t want to find out.
November 19, 2009 at 9:19 pm #1216I know I’m spitting into the wind here, but isn’t this year’s junior class really Pete’s first full-year recruiting class? So next year would be the first full-year with Coen recruits.
After the first couple of Lembo years, and holdovers from Higgins’ success/recruiting, the team has been going downhill.
I don’t agree with everything AC has done — sure, there have been ridiculous problems on offense — but he has brought in a great corps of underclassmen, and the team will be loaded next year. If he fails then, the answer is obvious.
IF WE BEAT A RANKED LC: Do we really want to start all over again next year with a new coach (unless it’s a current assistant) and new system when we’ll have the horses in place, a group of kids who should be bitter from losing games they should have won?
If he beats a ranked team Saturday — and does it like last year — Sterrett should have a tough call.
November 19, 2009 at 10:23 pm #1221You are correct about this years senior class. By the time Coen was hired it was very late in the recruiting cycle and the best Coen could do was try to hold on to the players who had been recruited by Lembo’s staff. This hurt both the size and the quality of the class. However, I don’t think that’s the problem with this team. In my opinion, we have more than enough talent to win. It doesn’t matter how many good players you have, they have to be well coached in order to perform up to their ability level on the field. If you watch this team week in and week out, it is perfectly clear that they are not well coached. Based on the past four years there is no reason to believe that would change next year.

Amen!
November 21, 2009 at 2:34 am #1224The amount of postings show the apathy that will probably continue next year.

On one hand if we win today, we beat a Lafayette team and keep them from a possible playoff spot in a game where they are undeniably the favorite. That would probably annoy a lot of their fans, so it’s a happy day in Lehigh-land. Downside, Coen back for Year 5?
The other hand, we lose to Lafayette at home and finish 3-8. No possible way for Coen to be back for Year 5, right…
Even though it’s practically blasphemy, I’m torn today.
