BU has made their OOC Schedule official. As expected, they are in the Legends Classic and will face Vanderbilt in opening round play. The Bison will later serve as host to three lesser schools in round-robin play out in Lewisburg. What was once thought to be (earlier post by Bison 137) a trio made up of: Hofstra, Morehead State, and "another" mid-major has turned into: Princeton, Morehead State, and D-II W. Alabama. Ummm, not soo quick. A check of the W. Alabama web site shows no such game. Check back later.

University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) comes to Staber on January 3rd. The Hawks, who finished near the bottom in the MEAC last year, will also take-on two other PL schools (AU and Navy) this year.

It appears that the Legends Classic had a last minute drop-out plus some behind-the-scenes gyrations. Bucknell was told in the spring tha Hofstra would be one of its opponents but it was switched to Princeton. That is a significant upgrade since Princeton was better than Hofstra last year and should be a lot better this year. As for West Alabama, they are clearly a last minute substitution for someone who dropped out. As you mention, the change was so recent that they have yet to change their schedule on their official site and still show games on those dates against other teams – games that will either be dropped or rescheduled.

To: Bison 137 and other BU fans who may read and contribute to our Board…….

Congrats on a fine schedule in 2011-12 (average end-of-last season RPI of OOC foes 144.8) and your selection to participate in the Legends Classic. Win a few for the PL! Meanwhile, we patiently await the formal release of our schedule and hold out hope that another power confernece team or two will be added to the "known" schedule. Who knows, maybe even an invite to an early season tournament. As things stand now, there’s a 16 day gap in what we know to be our schedule between 11/12 and 11/28.

The opponent (St. John’s) remains the same but the date changes to Nov. 9th. UMBC becomes the Johnnie’s season opener on Monday, the 7th.

Once Mississippi State and Texas A&M announce their schedules we’ll know the names of all 8 "lesser" schools picked to play in the 2K Coaches vs Cancer event. As it stands now, it’s LU, UMBC (also @St. John’s), Valaraiso, and Duquesne. The latter two will suit-up and play Arizona in early action. It’s possible LU will serve as host to three other schools in later "round-robin" play. Looking at our "known" 3-game "home" schedule, that would make seem possible. Keep dreaming.

Corrrection. It appears that the Johnnies will open up their season on the 7th of Nov. against William and Mary and not UMBC. The latter school, while on the St. John schedule, is not believed to be participating in the 2K Classic. Lehigh will play St. John’s on the 9th. If all this is correct, Lehigh and W&M are in the Classic along with Valpo and Duquense with four other programs yet to be named. Those other four – two each – will go in opening round action to either Texas A&M or Mississippi St.

It was rumored and now it’s official, Lehigh gets an early Christmas present – a trip to East Lansing to face Big Ten opponent Michigan State on December 22nd!

It appears Lehigh will be Fairleigh Dickinson’s home opener on Monday, Nov. 14th. The Knights went 5-24 (3-15) last season and finished 12th in the 12-member NEC. Official word should come soon. If so, we’ll open with three staight on the road with FDU following games played at St. John’s (11/9) and Iowa State (11/12). That brings our OOC game total to 10 with at least three more to be added when 2K Classic officials announces of the sub-reginoal pairings for games to be played on Nov. 18-20. I would expect, or should I say hope, that another game gets added to our OOC calendar bringing the number to 14 before the start of PL play in January.

I should have waited a hour or two before making that last post. The Bulldogs of Bryant just moments ago released their schedule showing a home date with Lehigh on New Year’s Eve. Good News: Home by mid-night with a 1pm start indicated up in Smithfield, RI. This news brings the total to 14 OOC (11 known and 3 to come via the 2K Classic Sub-regional). Sadly, however, we’re looking at 3 home games and 8 (most likely 11) on the road.

Housenick has an article on LU schedule:

    http://blogs.mcall.com/varsity/2011/09/ … ate-1.html

If I counted right, he identifies 15 ooc opponents: Iowa State, St Johns, Michigan State, Fordham, St Peters, Quinnipiac, Wagner, St Francis, Cornell, Bryant, MD- Eastern Shore, and Arcadia.

According to Reed, no home game with FDU. Could this be one of the three 2K games?

I will be surprised and disappointed if LU doesn’t beat St. John’s at the start. Not only did they lose their top eight players from last year but they have also had at least three of their incoming freshmen ruled ineligible.

I see now that the schedule is up on the LU site:

    http://www.lehighsports.com/sports/mbba … fault.aspx

FDU turns out to be a road game. The three 2K games are at Liberty. Total of 16 ooc games. I think this will turn out to be the third best PL ooc schedule.

There is a lot to digest here. Obviously thrilled about the 2K Sports inclusion and the possibility for up to three high quality games against mid majors. Not thrilled about only 4 home games including a D3. It seems we have an EXTREMELY difficult time getting anyone besides NEC and Ivy teams to visit Stabler. We did have Fordham last year, and St. Joe’s somewhat recently, but the home OOC schedule seems to always be hard to fill with quality opponents.

It will be interesting to see who we are matched up with besides Liberty for the 2K regional.

I agree with 137 about St. John’s being winnable. They will be dependent on a lot of young players playing in the first college game that night, and as 137 mentioned, have some key guys ineligible.

Overall, pretty pleased. This may not be a schedule to pad the W-L column with so many road games, but it does seem like it will toughen up the squad. Three BCS games, a back-to-back-to-back weekend, and an away heavy schedule will grow some character if you can come away with it with your confidence intact.
