    [quote quote=26412]Great info.

Not as much sizzle, but a lot of winnable games.

LaSalle was terrible this past year, only won 9 games overall.

Arkansas St was also terrible in the Sun Belt, only won 11 games overall.

So, those are games we could easily win. Glad to see a Big 5 team on the schedule for the first time since the Nova game in Allentown and the away St. Joe’s game a few years back.

Stony Brook will be way down, lost coach, and Jamal Warney and Carson Puriefoy will have graduated. Another winnable game.

Yale and Princeton may be 2 best teams in the Ivy next year, so they will be tough.

Even Miss St was pretty bad this year, near bottom of SEC and under .500.

Would like to see us play .500 basketball or better in the OOC.

Agree on Princeton. They should be the unanaimous pick for 1st in the Ivy. However Yale will not be nearly as good, having lost four starters: Sears (Ivy POY), Sherrod (1st team All-Ivy), Victor (All-Ivy HM), and Montague (who started and played a ton of minutes before the witch hunt removed him from the team). Also lose Ghani, who played some real minutes as well.

With the unbelievable class that Harvard is bringing in, they should move back to the #2 spot.

I think LaSalle will be quite good next year. They return their top 6 players plus add FOUR power conference transfers from Arizona St, Memphis, South Carolina, and Syracuse. They will have some serious talent. Remains to be seen if they can bring it together but Giannini has succeeded with transfers before and my guess is they are very good next year.

The Arizona State transfer is Savon Goodman who played his first game for ASU when Lehigh beat them in Tempe. He is now on his 3rd school.

You’re not giving Goodman enough credit. He’s actually on his fourth school. In addition to ASU and UNLV, he also spent time at a JUCO but didn’t play. He left UNLV after being suspended for a full year when he was arrested for several felonies. This past year he was suspended by ASU for four games for violation of team rules and lost his starting spot when he returned. Hurley reportedly did not want him to return.

It will be interesting to see how well Giannini can get next year’s group to play as a team. He will have four transfers from big-time programs who may all think they should be the focus of the offense. And as you say, he will also return their top six scorers. Can he blend these ten into a cohesive team? Given that they were an awful team last year, I am less optimistic than you about how good they will be. Maybe middle-of-the-pack A10 would be my guess.

There’s a chance I may attend that Lehigh/Mississippi State game down in Starkville. One of my brothers is about to start graduate school for a doctoral degree at MSU, and the game will be played on Black Friday. Due to the length of time Miss St. gives students off for Thanksgiving (Wednesday-Sunday that week), the high cost of travel, especially from rural NE Mississippi (though at least there is a very small commercial airport only about 15 miles from the university), and the time proximity to the university’s winter semester break, it is unlikely he’ll be visiting family at Thanksgiving. So it possible I may go visit him at that time, though as I noted above air fares to the nearby airport are high and all other larger airports (Jackson and Birmingham being the closest; Memphis would also be an option) are at least 2+ hours away. If I visit, we probably will also try to attend either the Egg Bowl (Mississippi State/Mississippi) in Oxford (Ole Miss) or the Iron Bowl (Auburn/Alabama) in Tuscaloosa; Tuscaloosa is actually within 1 1/2 hours of Starkville. We may also try to attend a Memphis Grizzlies game (the Grizzlies will have a home game on Black Friday, so if Lehigh/Mississippi State is an early afternoon game, that would be doable).

I’ll probably make my decision by mid-September.

Any chance that Cabrini will be an exhibition that we can see and hear some info about?

edit: scratch that question. Wasn’t paying attention to date, and was thinking of pre-season tune up game.

    from Cabrini official baskeetball site:
RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini men’s basketball team will face at least two NCAA Tournament teams and the program’s first-ever game against a Division I program in 2016-17, third year head coach Tim McDonald recently announced.

It appears it won’t be an exhibition game. However NCAA rules do allow a team to play an exhibition game at any point in their schedule, so theoretically it could be. Also there are games played each year that are official games for the D1 team and exhibitions for the D2/D3 team. Those also are more commonly at the start of the year, but sometimes take place much later. Several PL teams have had official games that were exhibitions for their opponent.

If Lehigh is going to play D3 schools, I’d much rather see them play Moravian, Muhlenberg, or DeSales. IMO, it’s kind of ridiculous they DON’T play those schools in their annual D3 game.

Incidentally, according to what has been posted on the Lafayette Sports Forum, the Leopards WILL play Moravian this year in their annual D3 game.
