The team had a very good year. This is a terrific group of individuals who worked together to produce a fine season.
After a shaky start, they gained momentum and became league champions again.
There is room to rise higher and for Lehigh softball to become heralded as the best team in the East. However, this will require more consistency and better pitching than the team showed of late. Pitching is the big unknown for next year as Emily had periods of brilliance and times that she struggled – such as yesterday – which was a game Lehigh could have won. This is not to diminish the strong year.
Let’s see what the off season brings and whether she can really emerge next year and let’s hope Parker is able to add precision with her speed.
Then, there is the wild card Lainey Stephenson who may be an exceptional addition!

    Very good post Hawkineer.

During the fall season, I thought Fran had an embarrassment of riches at the pitching position. Today, I think he may have a challenge.
With Emily and Parker, the problem may just be psychological. That tends to be a factor when performances go in streaks.

Does Lehigh still use Jarrod Spencer and Julie Amato? Their names were noticeably absent at the award banquets I attended.

I have no idea how effective Stephenson will be atLehigh from the pitching circle. Her effectiveness has dropped significantly since her much heralded sophomore season. I know there was an injury in her junior season. I have no idea whether it was still plaguing her this year. I had no impact on her hitting though. She continued to crush the ball. Keep in mind though that she plays her HS ball at a low level.

Agree. Believe Emily will settle into #1 role as she matures. Parker a bit of a puzzle. A very tough transition to college. Based upon her talent and the level of competition she faced in HS , I have to agree that her issues are not physical. Lainey a wild card for now. Fingers crossed :))

That would be phenomenal to say the least. Hannah was LV POY, A-S 1st,A-A and the #5 recruit coming out of HS.Haven’t had a chance to look at her Pitt stats but regardless she would be a remarkable get for Fran. Please keeps us updated if you hear more. Thanks.

Certainly would get a much better education than at Pitt

I followed Hannah in HS and although she played against low level competition, you could tell she was the real deal. She runs like the wind. Since she was an excellent student I had hopes for Lehigh but before I could ask Fran, she committed to Pitt I believe in her sophomore year.
It is quite a transition from Catty to the ACC but Hannah to well starting 38 of the 43 games she played in hitting .274 with 3 triples. I think she is a classic lead off hitter. She stole 11 of 15 bases in her freshman year. She would be a huge asset to Lehigh and a dynamo in the PL.
I don’t know where Fran is with roster spots and scholarship money. Hannah was valedictorian of her class, I believe, so academic aid may be out there.
This would be a huge get for Lehigh if true.

Alex brought up interesting issue. Does Hannah have to sit out a year?
May not outside of the major sports there is a one time exception to to 4yr to 4yr college transfers if she gets a release from Pitt.Hope I read rule correctly:)

I think you did Rich. She should be eligible for a one time exception. The problem may be that Fran, I believe has all his recruits through 2018.
Lehigh had 18 on their roster this year. With 3 leaving and 4 coming in we will be up to 19. That # appears to be the norm for the Patriot League with the exception of Army (of course) who travels with 25.

Dang. Kinda thought so looking at roster. No doubt she could get admitted. Perhaps an academic or a great 1 yr loan with the assurance of a grant for the 2nd year. Wonder how many coaches have any schollie $ left. Guess a lot depends on what she is looking for.

with her academic pedigree, she should be looking for high quality education and good softball program, she gets both in Bethlehem and close to home to boot

    van,
Hannah is also a small town girl who enjoyed small town life I think. Having friends and family able to come to games I think is a big draw.

    Trivia question.
Simply off the top of my head, I can only remember one girl who transferred into Lehigh softball. Anyone remember who?

Consequently, I also only remember one girl who transferred out after the Troyan takeover but there could be more. Any guesses there?

Lehigh softball has been incredibly consistent in both success and personnel over the years.

Confirmed today. Hannah added to incoming class. And as we surmised immediately eligible. Wow.
One cannot overemphasize the impact thus young lady could have. Congrats to Miss Edwards and Coach Troyan.
