First, a look back at the 2012-13 Season……….

    Team / Record* / RPI / SOS

    Bucknell / 27-5 / 51 / 192
    Loyola (MD) / 21-11 / 98 / 160
    Lehigh / 20-9 / 107 / 229
    Boston U. / 17-12 / 148 / 216
    Lafayette / 18-15 / 153 / 169
    Army / 15-15 / 205 / 277
    Holy Cross / 12-18 / 251 / 261
    Colgate / 11-21 / 256 / 226
    American / 10-20 / 277 / 232
    Navy / 7-23 / 308 / 228
    * D-I games only. Post-season games not included.

And now a look ahead to the 2013-14 Season……………

When it comes to scoring and rebounding the basketball, some teams return nearly all their weapons while others – including Lehigh – do not. Reed and Co. will have their work cut out for them this year!

    School / Scoring / Rebounding

    Navy / 100.0% / 100.0%
    Boston U. / 99.8% / 99.9%
    Army / 71.1% / 79.3%
    Lafayette / 70.8% / 73.5%
    Colgate / 70.0% / 73.6%
    Holy Cross / 68.0% / 66.9%
    Lehigh / 45.3% / 43.7%
    Loyola (MD) / 44.7& / 44.7%
    American / 42.8% / 47.4%
    Bucknell / 36.4% / 41.0%

With the inclusion of Loyola (MD) out of the MAAC and Boston University out of the AE, it’ll be harder than ever to capture the league title in the new 10-team PL. It’ll be fun to see what the League officials do re: scheduling (longer road trips into neighborhoods to play nearby teams ?), tournament seeding (two byes?) and site selection (campuses or central location?).

If these numbers are based on the whole season, then Bucknell’s are not accurate.    BU returns 40% of its scoring and 45% of rebounding.   Probably slightly more if just PL games -since both Fitzpatrick and Brackney missed some of the non-league games – but I didn’t check.

One other thing is that if Patsos leaves Loyola – which is fairly likely – then they may lose a player or two.

Bison 137, the stats used in my PL analysis were taken from the various team websites and included all games played. In the case of Bucknell, it was 34 games and I considered the seniors (non-returners) to be: Fitzpatrick, Johnson, Klebon, Muscala, and Willman. I subtracted their yearend point and rebound totals from the team totals of 2277 points and 1230 rebounds and arrived at the ‘return’ percentages listed in my original post, i.e., 36.4% for scoring and 41.0% for rebounding. I’m not saying it’s perfect, it’s just what I came up with.

Fitzpatrick is coming back next year for Bucknell.

    That explains the difference. Thanks.
