November 23, 2016 at 12:42 am #29574Some observations after # 152:
Lafayette players seem bigger, but slower, less athletic especially OL.
Fundamentally, Lafayette players do not block and or tackle well.
Lafayette does not seem to match their talent to their offensive game plan, or vice-versa. What a recipe for disaster… cannot run, cannot stop the run.
Since 2013, Lafayette’s players do not really seem to develop. Example- QB Reed. He burst upon the scene and threw for 7,000 yards but I don’t know if he got better. The one dimensional offense meant that he absolutely HAD to pass because they stopped running after Schuerman left. Shafnisky kept getting better and better, to the point that he is an excellent, accurate passer and an opportunistic, effective runner.
Overall, a terrific job of recruiting on balance after four years of merit scholies. I will now also apologize for being hard on our D coordinator. They really turned it around. Also, Drew Folmer is looking like the second coming of Dave C.

November 23, 2016 at 1:50 am #29579I think the one thing people forget about Shafnisky is that he played the 1st 2 seasons with multiple tears in his throwing shoulder. It REALLY affected his throwing motion. Since the operation, he’s been a completely different player.
I also think that people underestimated the toll a coaching overhaul has on a program. I think there is a learning curve and a chemistry that needs to be developed from the top-down in order to be successful, That sometimes takes consistency.
Am I the only one who thinks Laquan Lambert should have been on the PL team somewhere. Personally, I think he was THE difference maker on defense this year. This team played significantly better when he got healthy. Just my opinion.
November 23, 2016 at 2:13 am #29581Agree across the board. His arm was better ladt year after procedure. Much improved again this year. He is no longer ltd as much in depth of his throws.
Lambert absolutely the difference in D performance. He controls the edge. His loss early last season hurt our D all year against the run.November 23, 2016 at 2:34 am #29583yep, agree on Lambert, missed tackles one of my biggest pet peeve, he never misses a tackle, gonna miss him
November 23, 2016 at 2:38 am #29584We sorta forget his play at S the prior year. A tackling machine.
Botts has KM backing him up again. Ugh. KM ic a CB not a Rover. Have tovreplace all LBs next yr. Daunting.November 23, 2016 at 4:26 am #29586[quote quote=29583]yep, agree on Lambert, missed tackles one of my biggest pet peeve, he never misses a tackle, gonna miss him
