Andree’s HS, CBA, has the #2 seed in the Non-Public South A bracket, and a first round bye. They will kick off action on March 4. Of real intrigue is a semifinal matchup between CBA (#2) and St. Augustine (#3). These two teams met earlier in the season with St. Augustine winning a close game. Both of these teams were soundly beaten by St. Anthony’s of Jersey City, who play in the Non-Public North B bracket.
The CBA/SA game is intriguing as it features two future PL players (Andree) vs. Sa’eed Nelson, who will attend American next year. Nelson is a small point guard, but fearless taking the ball to the rim. He’s under 6’0″ but would remind you of Allen Iverson, relentlessly, taking it to the rim through the trees. He should have some battles with KR in the future. American also has another offer out to a St. Augustine junior, who is a real up and comer, named Justyn Mutts (6’7″). Mutts and Nelson have led SA to a 27-2 record, and SA sits at #1 in the Philly Inquirer Top 25 area rankings. Mutts was going to transfer midseason to perennial N Jersey powerhouse St. Benedict’s (and be immediately eligible as St. Bene not a NJSIAA school), but decided to remain at SA.
Andree will pass 2,000 points in the State Tourney, if he didn’t already do it in last game. The top seed in their bracket is St. Joe’s of Metuchen, who have featured past players like Jay Williams (Duke/Bulls) and Andrew Bynum (Lakers) and Karl-Anthony Townes (Kentucky/Wolves). 1 of those three schools, CBA, SA, and SJM, should see St. Anthony’s at some point in the Tournament of Champions.

March 6, 2016 at 3:53 pm #25904Andree 17 in a close, low scoring (49-43) quarterfinal win in State Tourney. Tomorrow vs. St. Augustine and Sa’eed Nelson, who scored 14 in his QF win.
March 7, 2016 at 3:26 pm #25919AU fans are very excited about Nelson, and it appears that is well founded. Would love to see Andree go off tonight and have a huge night for some payback.
On a side note, it looks like a pretty nice recruiting year for the PL. BU just got another nice commitment over the weekend as well. This season wasn’t a great one for the league, but I’m cautiously optimistic that the future is bright.
March 7, 2016 at 4:55 pm #25924In their first go around, St. Augustine beat CBA in a close game 58-55. Andree went for 21 and Nelson had 24. So, the rematch should be a battle. 5 PM today.
Winner should get St. Joe Metuchen on Wednesday night.
March 8, 2016 at 3:14 am #25947CBA got destroyed 85-52, so season is done. Andree 13 points in loss. Nelson also 13 points in win.
March 11, 2016 at 2:26 pm #26043In the South A sectional final, St. Augustine vs. St. Joseph’s Metuchen, St. Augustine won a classic, by 2, in OT. Sa’eed Nelson (American), 31 for the winners. He is going to be an impact player, I think, next year at American.
March 11, 2016 at 6:05 pm #26073Forgot to mention, that the St. Joseph’s of Metuchen team that Nelson defeated has Tyus Battle (Syracuse) and Breein Tyree (Ole Miss).
