I was going to go to see Villanova and Pitt at the Pavilion on Wednesday, but now I am really thinking of making a trip down to American. Energized by that Holy Cross performance, and this is a really big game early on the road. If we win Wednesday, the PL really is a two horse race this season.
January 14, 2013 at 10:42 pm #8901Yes huge game Wednesday. How far are you from DC 90? Isn’t that a hyou’ll for you?
January 14, 2013 at 10:42 pm #8902Hike, hike for you, damn iphone
January 15, 2013 at 2:36 pm #8906If the traffic situation works well, I can be at American in about 2 hrs 30 minutes to 3 hours. It is actually one of my shorter PL trips. Closer than Bucknell, HC, Colgate, Navy for sure, and Army about the same time for me as American. Loyola will be a nice trip for me, BU not going to happen.
January 17, 2013 at 1:26 am #8924Well it is the Holden Greiner show at the half man, single handedly kept LU in it. American went Bryant-esque to start the game, hitting 3’s from everywhere but they cooled off and HOlden heated up and we went from down 14 to up 3 at the half. This with nothing from GK, 8 mins/2 fouls/0 points. MM has looked good as well with 6. BJ showing drive and aggressiveness again…Lot of isolatino buckets for HG and MM, not lot of ball movement today, did have some nice ball movement and SC missed few open 3-balls….but should be good game here.
January 17, 2013 at 2:32 am #8926Pheeew….just couldn’t put them away. We only scored 8 points in the last 8 minutes with most of them coming on foul shots at the end. As LUHoops00 said, it was the Holden Greiner show for the latter stages of the 1st half. Some notes:
1.)Foul trouble limited Gabe and Justin although neither were particularly effective when in. Lumpkins nearly outrebounded us.
2.)Mackey McKnight with 0 turnovers. Overall very good game from him tonight.
3.)Conroy Baltimore with 0 fouls in 9 minutes. Leading rebounders were our point guard (McKnight) with 6 followed by Baltimore with 5 in only 9 minutes.
Big win on the road.January 17, 2013 at 3:17 am #8931Mackey drove the bus, filled up stat sheet and was very good. Importantly, as TMH pointed out zero turnovers. Led the team in rebounds, assists, and steals, adn even had a blocked shot.
Goldy, had 4 and 3, but helped hold the senior lumpkins to 4 for 10 shooting, lot of Lumps off boards off his own misses it seemed. Goldy held his own, his defensive presence is so much better then it was in Nov & Dec, not leaving his feet as much and staying in position. Baltimore chipped in nicely, had 5 boards and and a nice putback.
Depth of our backcourt man, they all freeking contributed. BJ had a huge steal at the end, had some nice drives, finished with 6 points. Schaef hit a big 3 ball from the side when AU was making second half run, and hit some FTs late and another sick behind back pass to MM. SC missed some 3 balls in 1st half but kept confident, had nice transition layup off MM feed and then 3 ball next time down. AD played well, hit a big transition 3 and another deuce. All 9 guys stepped up. Tell you what, if I asked anyone on here if we’d win at American pre-season with 2 points from GK and CJ combined, you;d think I was crazy….but it just happened. GK picked up some bad fouls, has to be smarter then that, and only had 2 points…
Holden really carried us and put us back in this game and gave us a chance to get our feet underneath us, huge gutty in.
Bucknell won again, both of us at 2-0, rest of league at 1-1 or 0-2. Good start, ‘gate on saturday night now.January 17, 2013 at 4:38 pm #8935That’s a big win for sure. Always a tough place to play and Jeff Jones is a pretty solid coach. I was following on my phone while watching Villanova-Pitt courtside. Worried, when down a bunch early, as I fear the ability to comeback without CJ. But, great win and 2-0 start, against most likely 2 of the best 3 teams, outside of Lehigh, in the conference.
Man, do they defend in the Big East. Every possession is like a wrestling match. Everything contested, everyone doubled inside 12 feet. Pitt plays some ferocious defense and won a very ugly game. Close until the end, with big spread late at the foul line. Not much offense either way. Was good to get a barometer on how good Pitt is after they dismantled Lehigh in the frontcourt. Pitt is now only 2-3 in the Big East. Adams, the frosh center, is really huge, as is the power forward, Zanna. Watching those guys up close, you realize how small we are in comparison. But, Pitt defends every bit as hard as VCU, in a different style, but man is it physical.
Around the PL …
HC wins by 15 at Navy, to bounce back from the Lehigh drubbing. Dudzinski with 16.
Army batters Lafayette at home by 23. Ellis with 23 for Army.
Bucknell rolls at Colgate 73-59. Usual suspects for Bucknell, Muscala 25/10, Johnson 15, Ayers 14, Willman 10. Burnatowski, probably best relatively unknown player in the conference leads Colgate with 17.
Lehigh should have an easy time on Saturday, at home, with Colgate, but really all eyes are on the following game, at Bucknell, next week. That night, we will see for certain, how good Lehigh is without CJ.
January 17, 2013 at 5:42 pm #8936Really off night for Gabe, he looked out of synch most all night. Goldy continues to get better.
Holden just out of this world good last night, really a pleasure to watch.
Team defense was pretty sound all night, only saw a few breakdowns. Give American
credit for hitting some big shots to keep the score as close as it was, very few gimme’s for them.
Gotta do better at foul line to close game out.
January 17, 2013 at 6:31 pm #8937Pretty quietly, Lehigh has been playing some really strong defense in the post-CJ era. 4 games, including VCU, and have not allowed 60 points to an opponent. Two PL games, and only allowing 52 ppg. Held two of the last four opponents in the 40’s. You are going to win a lot of games holding the other team to 52 every night. Even when you don’t shoot the ball that well, you can always defend and win ugly. The boys have obviously bought in to Reed’s defensive mentality and that bodes well for the rest of this season.
January 18, 2013 at 2:16 am #8943Really good point 90, the defense has been really really good…BJ adds another dimension as a perimeter stopper, listen to BJ postgame interview he wants to be PL Def POY, lofty aspirations.
Watching VCU vs St Joes, at VCU and gym is absolutely jumping man, what an environment, pretty amazing to see.
