Team played a solid game but for a t-/ period in the 3rd- 4th quarter. Alloeed AU a double digit run and could not answer with a run of their own.
When a team diesn’t expect to win, they rarely do.February 4, 2017 at 9:08 pm #30659The team played with a lot of intensity, especially on the defensive end. There was a lot of trapping. They also rebounded the ball very well. Our Achilles heel is still TOs. We try too hard to get the ball inside. When we do get it there, we are not very good at finishing.
February 4, 2017 at 9:45 pm #30663Agree about the turnovers, often on entry or interior passes. Were hitting from three early and defense was solid, but went cold from deep in the second half. They remain a work in progress
February 4, 2017 at 11:41 pm #30664Up 31-27 with KB on the court. Good mix of upperclassmen and freshmen (2 max). Back to 3 freshmen together, 14-0 run by AU, game over. Not questioning the talent of the kids but how they are being used. We’ve been out-coached again. No inbound play works. Half-court D was good. Other D schemes suck.
HH: 2pts, 4 assists, 3 TO in 32 minutes ?? Seriously Sue?
KB: 3 assists. 1 TO and 1 3 pointer in 8 minutes…
18 TO: 12 for the Freshmen
6’2″ Crisler had 18pts vs kids who cannot guard her. Too strong… We have a 6’2 and a 6’3″ rotting on the bench.
Post game: “When we play well on both ends of the floor, we can be really good” Hmmm… that’s deep.
“I think they have a lot of confidence that they can compete with anyone in the league.” Who? Your freshmen?
The inmates are running the asylum and Kelyann Conway is spinning the post games interviews.
Overall, more discipline and better decision making but still an awful coaching and rotations. But that’s just me….February 5, 2017 at 12:24 am #30665I’m not sure why you ignored HH’s 9 rebounds. I like KB a lot but assists is a funny stat. There are 2 parts to an assist, the pass and the shot. At least 2 of KBs assists were on 3s (if my memory serves me correctly) that went in. That being said, I would still like to see her get more PT.
It’s been my observation that the big girls you are talking about do not have the greatest speed or mobility. Size isn’t everything especially in an up-tempo game.
Just my opinion.February 5, 2017 at 12:33 am #30666Agreed. KB is, I think, more efficient if given enough time. As far as our post players go, I also agree but why dont we have a inside game that would balance our up tempo style. We could have interesting mismatches. To even go further, why even recruiting them then? As you said, stats can be funny. You put big kids to protect the rim, it forces the opponent to change their game. And it does not show in the box score. We can all be Monday morning QBs but that’s not what we were expecting a few months ago. “Specialists” picked LU #2 in the League.
February 5, 2017 at 6:32 pm #30667TMH, your comment made me thinking.. I was wondering if I was being unfair. So, I looked at the formula for Player Efficiency Rating. For the AU game, KB has a +23 and HH got a +4. It’s not about the kids’ talent, it’s about how to use them.
February 5, 2017 at 7:42 pm #30668I like HH, I think she’ll be one of the better PGs in Lehigh WBB history. But when a freshman plays 35+ minutes a game and there’s a capable veteran backup like KB, it does raise questions
February 5, 2017 at 7:56 pm #30669Agree Ben. TMH right about BM and ME not fitting into a G oriented team. A waste of talent IMO. Sue has the players to run an inside O also. Understand choice depends somewhat on matchups. That said having an inside O option would have helped this year.
