I’ve not heard his name or situation mentioned in months, and it dawned on me a week ago when I was sitting on the baseline with full view of the LU bench and didn’t see him on the bench at the Holy Cross game. Has anyone been to home games or other road games and seen him on the bench as a part of the team? Is he still enrolled at school? Is his scholarship available for Reed and Co to use for a big banging rebounding/block shot 6’9 beast next year????? There has to be an unsigned big who could be interested in LU, especially if we win tonight and get another espn game next week and more media coverage…

Others feel free to correct me if I am wrong. I understand from the writeups that he is still at LU, but concussions were an issue early on. I am not sure if he decided to quit or the concussions were an issue. He is enrolled, not sure if his scholarship was taken. Remember he was recruited by LU and a high recruit, more so than CJ. He was at BC, but wanted to be closer to home. I was reallllllly disappointed when he decided not to play. Who knows how far LU would have gone with both CJ, him and company on the floor. The image of all that energy on the floor if you know what I mean. Let me stop dreaming and get back to reality.

thanks norcal, I knew that part, just wondering if we had any "FINALITY" to whether we got his scholly back, as I had read that his career was over…

    1. He went to Boston U, not BC.

    2. He may have been a marginally higher recruit than CJ – but not a lot higher for sure. CJ was certainly ranked way ahead of him by January of their senior years however.

    3. Based on the reports, he didn’t "decide" not to play but, rather, was unable to play due to serious post-concussion effects.

    4. I am sure LU would not "take" his scholarship until it is clear he cannot play going forward. At that point, they could give him other financial aid to continue in school. However they cannot use his scholarship on someone else if there is a chance he will play again next year.

    5. For LUHoops00: Curious as to where you read that his career was over? I’ve seen a few reports saying that it was in jeopardy but I haven’t seen one that was that definitve.

    137,

As I recall he was not cleared to play medically. Time will tell whether he can shake the post concussion issue. He is in school and will play , if cleared. If not , I do not know what LU will do with schollie. If converted to financial aid, that may or may not be enuf to cover bill.

Under NCAA rules, if doctors certify that he is very unlikely to ever be able to play again, then LU could continue to give him the full scholarship without it counting against the 13-scholarship limit.

Can’t do that, however, if his status is still up in the air.

Thanks for the clarification on BJ. The best of luck to him whether he plays or not. Degree first, basketball is a means to get it.

BJ mystery continues…if you check out lehighsports.com rosters below, he is missing in action…

However, doing some of my own research via Twitter, somewhat resourceful, I don’t tweet but I read up on sports teams/players I root for. Recent tweet below from BJ to CJ seems to me he is ready to ball…I had seen BJ write in summer about workouts, so this is a could be a very good sign folks…If cleared for take off he gives some added depth to the wing spot…could be huge for LU if he is back to where he was, let’s not forget he was highly recruited out of NJ and did drop 10 as frosh vs Uconn…guard rotation would be nice.

Below, you’d think, means he is not walk on but late scholly offer by reed…and seemingly a good sign that he played in the below…

Other than Staggers/Bailey, LU already has 12 players on scholarship. If Staggers got a scholarship, that means Bailey is not returning (unless he’s paying his own way – which I doubt). I’m guessing Staggers is a walk-on.

I was with hoops in trying to decipher BJ and CJ’s cryptic tweets. Maybe the coaching staff is just being cautious before posting his name to the roster. We can hope anyway.

Yes, Bum, I concur in that if Staggers is indeed a walkon then we would appear to have a scholly open, and let’s hope BJ is back and ready to roll.

Tell you this, end of game matchup killer is mackey, CJ, BJ, Holden, Gabe.

If he is back, we got a whole more athletic in backcourt, which brings me back to point from last year in that we got best athletes and depth in league so let’s run and gun and press and trap the heck out of teams aka louisville or siena when fran was there.
