    Game Time
    2pm, Monday, 1/2/17

    Game Notes

      LU’s

    We await

      BU’s

    We await

    KenPom Rankings and Predictions

LU (7-5, 1-0 in PL) and ranked 89th
    @
BU (6-7, 1-0 in PL) and ranked 176h
    LU wins by 2 (79-77)

In other games on Monday (all tip at 7pm):

    Army (0-1) @ Bucknell (1-0) … Bucknell by 9
    LC (0-1) @ Loyola (1-0)…Loyola by 11
    AU (0-1) @ Colgate (1-0)…CU by 6
    Navy (0-1) @ HC (0-1)…. HC by 7

Looking back at our win over Army

Eight played – eight scored – eight rebounded

KR was the only guy to hit > 50% of his shots from the field

Our 3 finest from “3” (KL, PA, and JC) go a combined 3 for 11
Fewest LU TOs (12) in a month of games

Highest number of steals (10) since Game 1 at Xavier (also 10)

2nd fewest points allowed (59) … bested only by giving up just 58 to Robert Morris

Has anyone seen TK miss 4 TFs in a row?

To quote Coach Reed, “In a night when it would have been easy to drop a game with our shooting numbers, we were able to pick up a win because defense travels.”

    Our Opponent on Monday: BU

Selected second in the Patriot League preseason poll, the Terriers finished third last year in the conference standings with an 11-7 record.

They sport a 6 and 1 record this year at Case Gym ….”The Roof”

We each enter the game at 1 and 0 and have a chance, along with Bucky, Loyola, and Colgate, to jump out to 2 and 0 starts in PL play. One big difference, however, is that we’d be the only one owning a 2-0 road record.

We can expect a step-up in experience going form AWP to BU. The Terriers will likely go with a starting lineup of 2 Sr., 1 Jr., 1 Soph., and 1 Frosh.

BU has shown good scoring and rebounding balance (3 double-digit scorers and 3 with double-digit boards). While they tout two 7-footers, don’t expect much time from either. Instead, Tim should have the likes of Alston @ 6’8” and Scanlon @ 6’7” to deal with.

While not shooting particularly well themselves, they limited HC in Game One to 31.6% shooting and out-rebounded the Crusaders by 20. They also clamped down on the visitors from Worcester, limiting them to just 2 second chance points and none via the fast break. BU used a pair of double-doubles from seniors Justin Alston and Eric Fanning to take down HC on Friday. Highlights follow:

    A few notes:

    1. Three players are currently suspended (reason unclear):

    – Cheddi Mosely, junior SG, who has started many games in his career.

    – Destin Barnes, freshman PF, who played pretty well in early games.

    – Blaise Mgbargorba, 7-0 senior center.

    2. Dylan Haines, 7-0 senior center has missed the last few weeks with an injury.

    3. Freshman forward Max Mahoney just returned from an injury. Played pretty well in limited time vs HC.

    4. Hanker son has been playing better lately as he comes back from two knee injuries.

This is likely a good time for LU to play Boston. Mgbargorba and Haines are not very good but their presence would give Jones an unlimited supply of guys to bang TK and foul him. Also Haines can hit the three, which stretches the defense. Also, Mosely has very deep range and can be a difference-maker.

Thank you both, LU65 and Bison, for your in depth insight and opinions. And Happy Holidays to our entire Lehigh message board community.

Who knows how far this team can go in 2017 if they can control turnovers and continue to play defense? Last shot at the ring during the TK era. Hard to say when Lehigh will see a big man this dominant again. Hopefully basketball fans in the Lehigh Valley will recognizing this and show up at Stabler beginning Thursday night!

Called it. Currently on a 17-5 run to make it look respectable. Really poor showing.

It seems neither of our Bball teams knows how to win. WBball needs to learn and MBball has forgotten. A down day for Bball today.

    8-30 on 3s
    9-16. FTs
A repeat of Army but topped by poor D. Geez.

    BU zone completely baffled them

Couldn’t agree more Van. There was little to no penetration via the pass nor dribble into the zone. It really neutralized Tim, and without 3’s dropping there was no offense to speak of.

Coach Redd summed it up fairly well when he said in his post game interview with Tom Fallon (WEEX), “We really go shook tonight.” He also said, as conveyed in the print report on line, “I don’t feel like we had the right players making the right attacks against their zone,” said Reed. “We’ve worked against a 2-3 zone and we’ve had success against a 2-3 zone. But in a night when we were on our heels, we were on our heels defensively and we were on our heels offensively. It’s a shame because that’s not the way we play.”

As many have said down through the years………..

    A. You live and die with the 3
    LU’s OOC Games this season: 109 for 259 = .421
    LU’s PL Games this season: 11/45 = .244

    Today, 1/2/17, vs. Boston U……… 8 of 30 (.267)
    Last Year’s Championship Game vs. HC …. 8 of 26 (.308)

    B. You need a supporting cast………

LU subs today: 3 men who hit for 7 points on 2 for 15 shooting (.133) in 60 minutes

BU subs today: 5 men who hit for 27 points on 10 of 19 shooting (.526) in 74 minutes

    Other Observations:

Maybe not gutless, 90, but a disgrace for sure

KenPom was quick to drop us from 89th to 97th and raised BU from 177th to 163rd. Hell, it’s not even 8pm in the East

Loyola and others are quickly rolling out their 2-3 zone packages

Except for Steals, this was a complete wipe out and a disgrace with LU losing on all fronts – but steals
FG%, 3FG%, Rebounds, Assists, Turnovers, Personal Fouls, Points in the Paint, and Points off Turnovers

Bucknell 41 / Army 39 at the half (ha)

May our fans show forgiveness and show up on Thursday
