Thanks JB. Knew you’d come thru. Congrats on win. Good luck rest of the yr.
October 12, 2014 at 12:44 pm #15983My 2cents. The O is fine. They avg over 30pts a game prior to today. I’m not a fan of #5. No vision and slow. I think 81,80 should get in at WR. The D is horrible. There has been absolutely no change on D at all in 6 weeks. Same players, same results. The DB’s and safeties are horrible. Even 26. We say he’s our best, other teams think not. He constantly gets tested by everyone and gives up big play after big play. I think all 3 of those long tds was on him. We might need a whole new d staff. I know the db coach is new, he needs to go. If we don’t have better DBS on the bench, the future is bleak. The guys on the bench CANT be any worse, it’s impossible. The lbs is same story. I know we miss 31. Best player on D. I also have a beef with return teams. Why is 3,81 returning kicks. They don’t even try to score, they run right to sideline or in the pile. We need some game breakers back there that want the ball. I think Coen has to make changes to his staff on d. I know Coen a Off. guy. Notice how he uses a lot of scholly kids on the O. But the D doesn’t. O avg 30pts very good. D gives up over 40pts very bad. See where I’m going with this. Time to give the pups on d some snaps. Upperclassmen had they chance, they failed. The moral of the team is shot. PL title was only thing to play for. To get moral up play the younger kids, they would be excited to play and bring a energy to the d we don’t have.

October 12, 2014 at 5:30 pm #15986I find it pretty bat-crazy that anyone could suggest a team starting freshmen and sophomores at most positions should strip the seniors of their few starting positions, making it underclassmen everywhere.
And for the many faults of Lehigh’s team so far this season, “energy” is not the problem. It’s execution, pure and simple, and involves everyone, seniors, juniors, sophomores, freshmen, coaches, everybody.
October 12, 2014 at 5:40 pm #15987“everybody” sums our team up. Makes a difference theoretically whether D coaches cant teach or players dont learn. Bottom line in the real world is that D is giving up lots of points . O left points on the field and gave points to BU. Even so,we are not going to win giving up 45 points.
Up to Andy to fix this mess somehow. I have no idea at this point how that can be done.October 12, 2014 at 6:42 pm #15988Historically, the Lehigh athletic administration has been fairly patient in these situations. Well dressed Sal Mentesana comes to mind. Fred Dunlap comes to mind. Even if things don’t turn around this year, I think Andy comes back next year. But after that…..?
October 12, 2014 at 6:47 pm #15989Andy not going anywhere. He ,as all HCs relies on assts. The D staff has not gotten this D to work. May be fault in lots of places with players but at the end of the day responsibility is on coaches to reach them and teach them. They have not.
October 12, 2014 at 7:34 pm #15990Ok, I was wrong about this season…………I still do not think it’s on the players thou. We could have Deon Sanders and Darrell Green at corner this year, and we’d still get beat deep. We could have Michael Irvin or Lynn Swann at wr and still not get the ball deep to them. The kids are really down and frustrated now, and even one of the injured told me after the game it’s coaching this year. Looking to maybe win only 2 games unless things 180.
October 12, 2014 at 7:41 pm #15991I find it bat crazy to stick with players that’s not getting the job done. You shouldn’t play because your a Sr. You should play because your good and do your job. The D can’t say that. Stick with same players and get same results. Hence the 0-5 record and worst college defense in the FCS. But Bott and the rest of the D coaches just keep doing what you do. Your loyalty to kids not getting the job done just cost you your job. Coen has earned the right to have and down yr. Kinda sad watching that game knowing the D would let you down when it counted. Im sure you all felt the same.
October 12, 2014 at 7:50 pm #15992A few quick points:
I said several games ago that doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome means one thing. It getting damn close to using the “I” word with this defensive coaching staff. The lack of improvement, and I would argue, disimprovement on defense since the JMU game is a heck of an indictment of this coaching staff.
Andy is the head coach. He is responsible for selecting his coaching staff. He is responsible for the recruits. Like in the real world, the buck stops with the top manager. This is on him. If he doesn’t fix it, like in the real world, he doesn’t deserve to stay.
October 12, 2014 at 8:50 pm #15993I agree the fullbacks should be playing on defense. What the hell, they are bigger, stronger & faster than the ones we have in there now and they have proven themselves in years past. We do no not use the fullback so why in the hell do we have one!!!! We have that talent that could be used at DE, ILB and OLB or anywhere else Coach Cohen deems fit, I think the coaches do not know what they want? I hear there are internal battles among the couches which is not good.
October 12, 2014 at 8:52 pm #15994I agree with LG, but am concerned that the fact that the staff has not done this says something about the players that are no playing. I hope I am wrong, but I think it means our recruiting is not good and we are in a deep whole as a program.
October 12, 2014 at 9:13 pm #15995I am knew at this kind of crap but it seems Lehigh is full of local politics when it comes down to who they are going to play and not to play? Where does coach Sawyer stand???
October 12, 2014 at 9:18 pm #15996I see the practices. I don’t agree we have insufficient talent on the sidelines. I think its a clear case of ” you waited your turn”. This philosophy doesn’t apply to the O. They put kids in that makes plays. After saying that though, you wouldn’t see #85 if #21 wasn’t out. Another freshman that wouldve had to wait his turn. Maybe the internal conflict with the coaches is this subject. New coaches want best kids. Old coaches are loyal to a fault to the program
October 12, 2014 at 9:38 pm #15997Think we all should take a breath here. Every team we have lost to has a winning record. All very good squads. Other than UNH ,we have been in every game. We all can see the problems. Hell nailed them in his post game. O,injuries and inexperience the main culprits. It will be fine. Jury has to remain out on Folmar.
D DL an issue,as we’ve all noted, but it is not the main problem on D. I wish it were. 2ndary is lost. Injury to Wilmington,D QB has hurt. All new starters. Communication and keeping position virtually nonexistent evidently. Why?
Inexperience certainly but lack of improvement is mostly on coaches. Andy has to get Botts to fix this. LBs actually have done OK stuck between units with issues.DL did show marked improvement on Sat. As did D but for 3 big plays to one WR. All of these resulted from DBs not doing their assignments correctly.
Recruitig is always a bit of a crap shoot. Schollis dont guarantee superstars. The kids we have brought in are overall much better athletes. As I noted earlier, as of now more misses than hits with sophs. Still too early to actually decide that. Frosh are doing very well.
Much too quick to say we are plummeting into a down cycle. The danger is that if Andy cant solve the immediate issues,we might slide into one. Time will tell.October 12, 2014 at 11:54 pm #15998Wishful thinking Rich. Will u say that when were 0-10 going into 150? I now don’t see a win on the horizon. Any QB that can throw will have a career day. I see it in practice. D dB’s get beat constantly by 2nd team wrs and qb. Its not even close. I’m not a coach and see this. The announcer called the game clinching TD. DB’s play 10yds off the ball. That’s coaching. Keep touting we played good teams. Lehigh was decent team. Campbell basically said he was fed up with guys trying to be Superman when they not even a superhero. That was a shot to his teammates. The wheels have fallen off.
