It’s been fun. But you had 2 of LU’s top 5, maybe 3 of top 6, of all time. Did not deliver a damn thing. Bye.
Is Sterrett still AD? Grow a pair, Joe!March 9, 2017 at 4:05 am #30926I don’t see that happening. He’s still the coach that thanks to CJ beat Duke. That remains LU basketball’s claim to fame
March 9, 2017 at 4:06 am #30927I will not attend, watch, or otherwise support one more game that Brett Reed has a hand in. Period.
March 9, 2017 at 4:27 am #30928Toddcudd – I don’t know where you live, but if you live in or near the Lehigh Valley, I suggest you examine the coaching record over the last 10 years of the men’s basketball coach at Lehigh’s biggest sports rival, particularly when that Lehigh rival was expected to be a top level Patriot League team, and then compare that to the record Brett Reed has compiled, keeping in mind the preseason expectations for both teams each year. I also suggest you compare Reed’s record to pretty much every Lehigh men’s basketball coach’s record since 1930. (And if you don’t want to do any of the above, I’ll merely mention two words to you – Sal Mentesana.)
None of the above is meant to suggest Lehigh didn’t have a disappointing season in 2016-17. They were favored to win the Patriot League, and finished tied for 2nd in the regular season and lost in the conference tournament championship game, so they fell short of expectations. On the other hand, Lehigh DID go 20-12, so they did have a pretty good season and really only marginally underachieved.
(For the record, as a Lehigh Valley native who follows both Lehigh and Lafayette, I like Fran O’Hanlon and thought he did a great job at Lafayette during most of his first 10 years there, but it has to be pointed out that O’Hanlon’s teams have generally either been mediocre/bad or underachieved relative to expectations most of the time over the last 12 or so years.)
March 9, 2017 at 4:45 am #30929A.) Lafayette, right now, is a horrible basketball program. Among the worst in D1.
B.) Lehigh has had the best player in the PL for 4 years and nothing to show for it.
C.) Lehigh has had, arguably, the best TEAM in the PL for those same 4 years – with no results.
D.) Fran is a very good coach, and with our talent, would have had at least 2 NCAA trips.
E.) Where I live means dick-diddly.
F.) I’ll take Fran McCaffery or Billy Taylor – but thanks for playing.March 9, 2017 at 5:51 am #30931He’s not going anywhere. Has been a very good program. He’s a recruiter and a players coach. Never will be known for his acumen, X’s and O’s and IQ. But, I have to think Administration loves the guy. He’s a real positive influence in the lives of his players.
March 9, 2017 at 10:13 am #30932Todd, with all due respect to your passion, the better team won last night. Their 10-12 guys played better than our 7 or so guys. Pretty much all season. I’m disappointed also, but Billy Taylor and then Brett Reed brought stability and success to a program that had mostly sucked forever. The only way Brett Reed should leave is if he decides he’s had enough. Now onto life without TK, AP, and DC. And welcome C.B and M.W.!!!

A) yes
B) yes
C) not really. Bucknell is a better team this year and last night’s game exposed Lehigh’s weaknesses.
D) Impossible to say. Lafayette has done almost nothing for about 15 years.
E) True.
F) “thanks for playing”? Right. Why not say something that means something instead of using that hackneyed term.
Reed isn’t going anywhere unless he wants to but nobody should confer “coach for life status” on him. Look at what that did for Lafayette.
Last year’s title loss was the real disaster.
LU gave up a lot of easy offensive rebounds and didn’t play defense for long periods of time.
Over all, consider the history of Lehigh basketball. The Reed era is the high point or at least among the high points.
It was tough to watch at times last night but Bucknell has depth and Lehigh doesn’t.
At times the effort maybe was lacking.-

March 9, 2017 at 10:42 pm #30937Same thing on the women side. Make a package deal.
March 9, 2017 at 11:22 pm #30938The last time Lehigh fired a basketball coach, he had just gone 5-23. That was 15 years ago. This team finished 20-12. However disappointing, that does not cost a coach at this level his job
March 10, 2017 at 2:31 am #30941Doc needs some help. LU needs to play with more than seven men.
A side of me thinks it’s time for him to leave. But several of you made compelling arguments why he should stay.
Four more words: the Tom Pugliese era.
Basketball at LU finally is respected — at least outside the university.
Give Doc a hand at his weaknesses, get some depth and hope for the best.
What’s really sick is last night’s loss hurts more than that 20th loss in a row would have.

March 10, 2017 at 2:44 am #30943don’t understand why we have had such poor luck with injuries the past two years, but the short bench has been our Achilles heel much more so than coaching, I don’t think I would prefer any other PL coach over Doc, some might be better at certain aspects of the game but on a whole Doc compares favorably with any of them IMHO, now if we aspire to be Duke or KY or Louisville then …
March 10, 2017 at 3:09 am #30944Toodcudd – I only asked where you live because if you live in the Lehigh Valley, you probably have greater awareness of how Lafayette has done during Brett Reed’s tenure at Lehigh relative to someone who isn’t based near Bethlehem. Quite frankly IMO, Lehigh has been quite a bit more successful during Reed’s time at Lehigh than Lafayette has been over the same period. And let’s keep in mind that prior to Brett Reed, Lafayette was almost always better than Lehigh in men’s basketball, though to be fair Lehigh was trending up and Lafayette was trending down by the latter half of the Billy Taylor era.
I agree with the comment above that the Holy Cross loss last year was the real killer, and much worse than the Bucknell loss this season.
