Our schedule is de-coupled with several other PL teams this week, which gives us the opportunity to have a look at several rivals tonight, if you are so inclined.
Sienna comes to Bucky tonight at 7:00, available on PLN, and should be a pretty good matchup. Bucky is favored by roughly the “home court advantage” factor.
Also, on TV, Army plays at Tennessee at 7 and BU is at Kentucky at 9. Both are on SEC network, and are significant underdogs. Army gets the better chance at 22% per KenPom.
At this point, these are the 3 teams that have looked the best so far.November 24, 2015 at 3:21 pm #24002I’m going to check out Princeton/Lafayette on Wed. night. I’ll report back on Leopards, who look to be down in early play.
November 27, 2015 at 3:58 am #24045This is my report on Lafayette after watching them play against Princeton at Jadwin. In a nutshell, Lafayette is bad, really bad. They are pretty devoid of talent at the moment. They have a few decent players. Lindner is a solid PG, quick to the basket, but he has not progressed much since his freshman year. Jump shot unreliable. He drives it hard to rim but struggles to finish due to his small size. Bryce Scott is decent stand still jump shooter. He has no game off dribble. Monty Boykins has really improved. May be most improved player in league. Gets into paint and can finish in traffic. Good athlete. Then, you have their power guy in Matt Klinewski. Tough, not overly talented, but solid. Outside of those 4, nothing else and those 4 are not elite in any way.
Princeton flat out destroyed them by 50+. Game was over 10 minutes in and Princeton led by 30+ in first half, pushed to 40 early in second half. Lafayette defends very poorly and are just unathletic. The struggle to get anything easy on the offensive end. Really down from 2-3 years ago. No presence in paint, other than undersized Klinewski.
I was very impressed by Princeton. They are on the upswing. Lot of talent, really get after it on the defensive end, good size, and very good shooting team. Good team. They will be good in Ivy. Saw a lot of guys Lehigh recruited that would have really helped. On Princeton, Pete Miller, Spencer Weisz, and Boykins on Leopards. We could use those 3.
Lafayette will be a bottom feeder in PL this year.November 27, 2015 at 6:07 pm #24049I watched the Sienna-Bucky game, and it was a very good game and fun to watch. They both looked like good teams, to me.
The Bison didn’t shoot exceptionally well – only 23% from three – but got the job done in other ways. Everyone they play can put the ball in the basket efficiently. They got to the line a LOT – box shows 33 FTAs. Their size will definitely be a problem. With 7 guys on their roster listed at 6’7″+, they always have 2 true bigs on the floor, and Hass plays bigger than his listed 6’5″ imo. He can score in a lot of ways, and will be a very tough matchup. I fully expect that they will usually shoot significantly better than they did in this game, too.
Foulland will cause major trouble on defense if we go straight at him. I’d see our feast of Spalding Sandwiches continuing. However, I don’t think he moves his feet really well, and can get caught out of position. I think a key will be interior passing to make him move and help.December 9, 2015 at 12:07 am #24237Bucknell at Mt. St. Mary’s has just tipped. Good preview of two upcoming opponents, for anyone interested.
December 9, 2015 at 7:58 pm #24260I had penciled that MSM game in as an easy win. Now MSM has beaten American, Loyola and Bucknell. They might win the PL. I can’t take any losses to Northeast Conference teams. We already lost to StFrPA, and now looking at losses to RMU, and MSM. Disaster.
December 9, 2015 at 9:28 pm #24261I watched the Bucky-MSM game, and until we see the team turn the corner, I’m not eager to see either of those games. Bucky is just plain good, and should have won that game. MSM plays very fast with a harassing press, and I don’t recall us responding really well to that kind of press recently.
December 12, 2015 at 2:42 pm #24283Didn’t realize how down RMU is this season. They should come into Lehigh game at 1-9. Somebody going to reach 2 wins that night.
