Bucknell 8-1
American 6-3
Lafayette 5-4
Lehigh 4-5
Holy Cross 4-5
Navy 3-6
Army 3-6
Colgate 3-6For Lehigh, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see that they need to win a lot in these last five games.
Catching Bucknell or American is a tall order. Lehigh would have to sweep their remaining five games, while Bucknell would have to lose four of five and American would have to lose three of five. Not something to bet the rent money on.
But the Mountain Hawks, crucially, are also 1-0 vs. Holy Cross and Lafayette so far. While you can’t lose focus in any game the rest of the way, wins against the Crusaders and Leopards are especially critical. If they win those two, they’ll have tiebreak power over both teams and the only way one of the 3-6 teams could pass us is through a torrid run of their own.
If they can do that, Lehigh is looking like a real good shot at the No. 3 seed. That’s not a terrible place to be. Assuming for a moment that Lehigh can win a tournament game at home, they would either play at American (whom they played tough both times) in the second round or host a second round game.
As a Lehigh fan, I can live with that scenario.
February 12, 2011 at 7:58 am #3259It’s a tall order, but not impossible. Some of the major keys to getting this done are team work, work ethic and getting everyone to contribute.
February 12, 2011 at 1:23 pm #3261LFN, don’t under-estimate the importance of today’s game up at West Point. An Army victory would mean a sweep over LU and knot the standings at 4-6 each. The same could be said for next week’s game at home against Colgate. A Mountain Hawks loss in that game would award the Raiders a series sweep. These are fun times – almost as exciting as the Playoffs themselves.
Today’s dream outcome:
LU over A (4pm start)
N over LC (7pm start…worth watching on All-Access after Lehigh game)
BU over HC
CU over AUResulting Standings
BU 9-1
AU 6-4
LU 5-5
LC 5-5
CU 4-6
HC 4-6
Navy 4-6
Army 3-7February 13, 2011 at 2:09 am #3263The "dream" outcome didn’t happen, but 3 out of 4 isn’t bad. LU ends up in a 3rd place tie with LC @ 5-5. CU and Army drop to the basement @ 3-7. HC and Navy one game better @ 4-6. Atop the league is BU @ 9-1 followed by AU @ 7-3.
February 13, 2011 at 7:43 pm #3265Current standings (and remaining games):
BU 9-1 (@LC, @CU, LU, Ar)
AU 7-3 (@Ar, HC, Na, @LC)
LU 5-5 (CU, LC, @BU,@HC)
LC 5-5 (BU, @LU, Ar, AU)
HC 4-6 (Na, @AU, @CU, LU)
Na 4-6 (@HC, Ar, @AU, CU)
Ar 3-7 (AU, @NA, @LC, @BU)
CU 3-7 (@LU, BU, HC @Na)Although there is a lot of basketball left, the LU-LC game next Sunday will go a long way towards deciding 3rd place.
February 14, 2011 at 1:15 am #3266No surprise or shock or stroke of brilliance with what I’m about to say, but I’ll say it anyway, we need the 3 seed to avoid BU until the finals and to get another shot at American who I still think we’re better then. Get me the 3 seed, and get me a shot at BU with the lights on in a friday afternoon in march, and we’ll see how far number 3 can take us!!
IMO this season would go down as "livable" if we make the espn friday afternoon conference championship game….

Well here we are, the game we worried about. We did not get it done! Where was the passion? Coaching? The starting 5 cannot take this team all the way. More players needed to be involved from the start of the season. It’s a tall order to expect the bench to step in now.
