I only saw the first quarter of the game. Does anyone know how serious the injury to Shaf is? Is he expected back on Saturday? I think Andy made a tactical mistake by not playing Mayes a little in the 4th quarter of some games we had no chance to win. If Mayes had a little game experience it might have paid dividends on Saturday.

Doesn’t serm too bad. He was walking around easily.
Would have been nice to have gotten Brad more PT. Not really much chance to do so this season.

Lehigh Guy is dead on with the 3-5-3
First off if it was such a good def scheme more programs would be running it.
Lehigh went to it in desperation due to the personnel they have
One Spring and Fall is not that much time to install the entire package / thus Lehigh is only running parts of the 3-5-3
Once again the D gives up 50+ and over 500 TY
Andy is doing his best – worst move he ever made though was bringing Bott on. Ever since he was hired the D has had many problems.
You want to see a lifeless practice on Def – go to see a LU practice.
Spring – Summer or Fall I have watched them and there is very little teaching going on. In addition drills that are useless for the most part when it really comes down to playing football.

The problem is deep and yet with the weak PL LU has a shot to be OK.

There’s so much inaccuracy here it’s hard to know where to start… eh. Probably not worth it.

Probably just worth mentioning that Villanova. Yale, Princeton all run the same defense. Not to mention countless FBS programs, most notably West Virginia.

We run a 3-3-5 stack D. Yes,very hard to get it perfect the first time around.Scheme is not our problem, depth is. Playing a new system now staffed with too many frosh and sophs not all of whom are ready for the field. I’ve had my qualms with D staff but kids are learning the scheme. Noticed that Botts running more twists and stunts as well as a wider variety of blitz packages. He’s not coach K but doing a good job .First half was the best D we’ve played in 3 yrs.

I think we should try to bring back the DC from the ’98-’99 seasons. They were 23-3 and the defense gave up only about 16-17 ppg with a tough schedule. Anybody remember his name?

Maybe he should sack the 3-3-5 stack and go back to the 4-3-4 defense he played back in the day.

I love the 4-3. Still think its the best base D for college ball. Likely Botts’ favorite D also. We simply dont have enuf quality Dlinemam to run it well. If Kaufman,Morrow and Gille develop perhaps we will.

Excuse me I mis spoke 3-3-5
You sure named powerhouses of football that run the 3-3-5
WV runs it due to the fact that Rich Rod used to run it there as he still does no at Arizona. Countless – doubtful.
You say depth is a problem and I agree with that – whose fault is that? There was and is a major lack of a qualified PWO program. Spring practice was brutal.

Go to practice one day and check out the intensity of the D – or lack of it.
This along with the lack of teaching and poor football drills is not helping.

The offense at Lehigh for the most part has carried them since DK left.

Wasn’t that Gilmore? Cecchini was to OC and Lembo the Asst. Head Coach. Could be off a year or so.

Over half of Edmonds’ yardage came on three plays. The defense did a decent job most of Day containing him.

He had over 400 all purpose yards himself. Can you describe how many yards Edmonds would have had if we didn’t do a decent job containing him? 500, 700, 1000?

The defense was totally incapable of tackling him in space.

There are some positive signs like Mayes who looks like he can stretch the field. However, the defense and turnover margin are killing this team. The offense doesn’t value the ball enough and the defense just doesn’t ball hawk enough to cause TOs.

    [/quote]

Edmonds was contained MOST of the day. The three explosive runs were the killers. Had the D not lapsed on those three plays and the offense not turned it over so much, we win.
