2-Game Season Stats

LU (1-1) Ranked 160th (up from 188th)
Patriot Ranked 21st
@
FU (1-1) Ranked 176th (up from 191st)
Atlantic 10 Ranked 8thFordham wins 78-74 (63% chance)
Well, we all wanted an A10 opponent. Now we’ve got one! And, we had better be ready to stand up to conference’s 11th best in the Fordham Rams (see Preseason Poll below).
Atlantic 10 Preseason Poll
1. Virginia Commonwealth (307 points, 19 first-place votes)
2. Saint Louis (288 points, 5 first-place votes)
3. La Salle (265 points)
4. Massachusetts (236 points)
5. Saint Joseph’s (199 points)
6. Richmond (173 points)
7. Dayton (171 points)
8. George Mason (141 points)
9. Rhode Island (130 points)
10. George Washington (122 points)
11. Fordham (58 points)
12. St. Bonaventure (56 points)
13. Duquesne (38 points)Like us, the Rams are 1-1 in OOC play. They just did it in reverse order, winning with ease against SFU before dropping a game in which they were overmatched to 9th ranked Syracuse. Sound familiar? The mirror image continues when we see that the Rams couldn’t hit a shot (6 for 21) in their first half of play up in Syracuse but rebounded nicely in the second half canning 15 of 27 (55.6%). Not saying Minnesota is Syracuse, only pointing out their ability to score the ball against lesser opponents and rebound from shaky first halves of play. One more thing…..They can score! Their combined two-game offensive output is 161 points. Sound familiar? We’ve racked up 154 points to date. Like us also, they look to their guards to provide the punch and boast a pair that could be the envy of the A10 when all is said and done in Sr. Guard Branden Frazier (21.5ppg on .542 shooting) and Freshman Guard Jon Severe (23.5ppg on .519 shooting). The two have combined for 55.9% of the team’s points to date. And, they never (well almost never) leave the floor, each averaging 38mpg. Frazier, voted onto the 3rd Team A10 Preseason Team and Severe, a product of Christ the King and a Parade All-American (the only one so honored in the A10), will be an early season test of our stamina and defensive will. Thankfullly, we have a fleet of 7 talented guards (not counting AD or DC) to enter play on Friday night. It should be quite a learning experience for most. We know they can shoot but can they play D? We’re soon to find out.

“Stick” seems to have nailed it!
November 14, 2013 at 6:13 pm #12161Scary Stat from Fordham Syracuse game. Fordham shot 40.7% from three 11-27. Pretty impressive against Syracuse’s length. Also Frazier kid has made a living at the line.
November 14, 2013 at 7:45 pm #12163A barometer game. Altho this year our entire OOC could be called that
November 14, 2013 at 7:47 pm #12164Anybody heading to Fordham game? I am going to try to make it up. One of my favorite venues. Old school.
November 14, 2013 at 10:58 pm #12169Just wanted to let everyone know that the Fordham game will be televised on SNY in the tri-state area.
November 15, 2013 at 1:13 pm #12185In case you missed it: For those of us outside of the tri-state, and too far away to get there in person – it appears that we will have free streaming access to this game too, via Fordham/A10:
November 16, 2013 at 1:01 am #12198Well I was just about to say, they didn’t make it to 44 this half… What an effort by MM. Way to battle back in the first half, now let’s get a board or two.
November 16, 2013 at 1:17 am #12199I’m pretty pleased with the paint defense, as the half moved on. JC, JG, and CB forced some kick-outs when bigs were in deep. And Mackey has been just awesome. Leader? Oh, yeah.
November 16, 2013 at 1:25 am #12200Nice 1st half.Overload watching both this and wrestling. MM rolled .Kempton good.
November 16, 2013 at 1:44 am #12201Live by the 3 die by it also. Rider great, tonite so far 1-14
November 16, 2013 at 2:17 am #122021. Rebounding on defensive board, awful. Kempton has to get more active on the glass, or Baltimore and Goldsborough need to get more minutes.
2. Guards have to control penetration from the perimeter. Terrible all night, and Fordham guards got into lane at will.
Shame Mackey played amazing game, with not a lot of help. Young team, going to have ups and downs, but that was a winnable game, for sure.
November 16, 2013 at 2:21 am #122033-22 on 3s 6-20 ORebs. This team will be very very good. It isn’t yet. No one boxes out on shots. JC usually not there to box out. FU’s 3nd chance pts and our terrible 3 % leads to hard road loss. Came close AP and MM clutch shots. Need someone else to stand up on O.
November 16, 2013 at 2:47 am #12204Agreed, 90 – winnable game. Fouls hurt, a lot. I continue to be impressed with TK’s polish on offense – but he needs to be available for more minutes. He went at 2 and 3 guys with good results, when he was on the floor.
AP had a bad night, plain and simple. Foul trouble, and never got a rhythm. Mackey was just awesome.
Another take-away, for me – we MUST have either JC or JG on the floor at all times for defense. They changed shots, forced kick-outs on deep posts – good stuff. But when neither was on the floor, it got ugly in the paint. CB was capable on that front too – playing with an energy we haven’t seen before, IMO.
In general, I’m very impressed with JG so far. Biggest issue I saw last year was confidence, and that appears to be fixed. He knows what to do when he gets the ball in position now, and is ready to do it. I think he deserves minutes.
I have argued here for more SC minutes. He is not ready – at best. I’ll hold out judgment for a bit, working out of injury – but his night was ugly. If he can drain 3s, he’s a big guard – I won’t give up yet. But tonight… damn.November 16, 2013 at 3:15 am #12205P.S. I might be expecting too much, but I REALLY want to see AD back. Particularly with tonight’s foul issues (and SC minutes), I think he could have made a difference.
