23-of-25 from the line – that’s impressive! They could tear up the PL doing that ..

Made the 2nd half. Gaston not a factor. FU guards may be good down the road now no. LU frontline completed dominated Rams. McCollum not that sharp but overall excellent game.Mackey great play but geez more stupid fouls. Fordham is not a good team. No other frontline players but Gaston and their Gs dont get him the ball and they cant shoot. They are athletic but they are not basketball players

Just got home in the nic of time to view the game on Fordham video. Will get around to unpacking the suitcases today. Appreciate everyone’s comments and game recaps from Q’piac and Fordham affairs. Thanks, guys!

    As for last night ……………

LU’s worse shooting performance of the year @ 36.9% FG accuracy. We were out-rebounded 41 to 39 yet won by 18. Take it and get on the bus. Praise the play of HG and GK on the way home.

Solid ball-handling. 6 TO’s was lowest of the season. 8.3 TO’s/game over the last three is a pace to be admired.

The breakneck speed at which the game was played. We scored 10 fast break points to 0 for Fordham. Speed and athleticism led to turnovers and we capitalized nicely scoring 20 (vs. 7 for Fordham) off TO’s. Our 65 FGA ties for the highest this year. Ken Pomeroy ranks us 16th in the nation in terms of "Pace of Play." It’s fun to watch. Too bad the student body hasn’t caught on (that’s a subject for another post).

Holden Greiner’s 4 for 7 (3’s), 7 for 15 (overall), 9 boards and 3 steals. I guess the Liberty (or maybe it was the Eastern Kentucky) coach knew what he was talking about when he referenced Greiner – apart from CJ – as the one he was most concerned about defending. Holden’s .424 (3FG) is the highest on the team now, after making just 15 of 50 attempts (.300) last year from beyond the line. He also now leads the team in rebounding @ 7.3pg after averaging 4.3rpg last year. As for scoring, HG has nearly doubled his production from a year ago @ 12.3 ppg vs. 6.4 a year ago. And to think we have another year to watch CJ, Holden and Gabe!

CJ was being CJ again. Inconsistent. But, not to worry. CJ will continue to take some 25% of the team attempts from the field – some nights they’ll fall and other nights they won’t and he’ll look for open alternatives as was clearly evident from his play last night. Two of CJ’s six assists last night were flips to an open Holden on what could have been CJ buckets – or misses, of course. The point being a clear picture of team play from our star guard. After going 19 of 35 (.543) from the field in the 3 day tournament held down in Virginia, CJ has hit just 8 of his last 29 (.276) since in games against Q’piac and Fordham. I can live with it when, as he did last night, he dishes out 6 assists (1/2 the team’s total), pulls down 7 rebounds and executes 3 steals.

Free Throw Shooting. 23 of 25! Stats don’t lie. Ken Pomeroy ranks us 8th in the nation in terms of FT% @ 78.0% and 32nd in terms of percent of points scored coming from the FT line @ 25.7%. There may be no one better at getting to the line in the country than CJ who is converting @ 86.4%. And, that’s not the team-high. That honor belongs to Corey Schaefer @ 86.7%. In fact, out two point guards are a combined 37 of 43 (.860) from the line. Our starting 5 hit at the rate of 81.6%. Stats I don’t see changing much and sure to have an impact in PL play.

Jordan Hamilton’s steady, albeit unspectacular, play has cemented his role in the starting 5. Guess Reed guest right when put out his 5 to begin the season at St. John’s. It hasn’t changed a bit in 8 games. Jordan is a complimentary player who handles the ball well (15 assists to 4 turnovers on the season and 8 to 0 over the last 3 games) and , on occasion, will surprise you with points as he did against Liberty scoring 23. Night-in, night-out you’ll take 7 points and 3 boards from your 5th starter.

Nice road win. I thought Fordham would be tougher, but Lehigh playing well. Didn’t see the game, but looking at box was surprised to win by 18 on the road, only shooting 37 %. Greiner and Knutson are really improved.

I was expecting a slight bump somewhere. Glad they got it out of their system and came out with the W. Keep pounding the glass LU. You guys are looking great. Great team effort. BU, LU and HC hanging tough. CB did not play. Wasn’t he at home? Proud of you guys!!
