I believe a big problem is that these kids come into camp out of shape. Other than the locals coming to practice throughout the summer these players are coming to camp throwing their guts up the first day of practice. They have to do something better in the off season.

I hope they concentrate on getting a dozen big linemen in the recruiting this year. We have a lot of talent and a very young team but it seems like the coaches are not putting the right kids in the right place. Why is Kauf still at fullback? I’ve seen this kid play in high school and he belongs on defense, he is great! I’ve also seen Crawford in two of the PA State Playoff games a few years ago and he is also a great linebacker who can also help on defense. You have these two kids on the side lines the last four games and I can’t understand why? FYI, I am from the Lehigh Valley and want to see these local boys do well.

I am very optimistic about this team, we are very young and very talented we just need some more meat on the line!

No disagreement, Buddy. Welcome to the board. Both Crawford and Kauffman are tough hardnosed players able to play on both sides. Why on O? My guess is coaches figured they were needed there more coming into the season. We have lits of LBs and the issus on D extend beyond the LB crew.
For Bucknell, lets hope Nick is healthy and D can continue its turn around.

Rich, Agree, I hope Shaf is healthy and more than anything stays healthy for the entire season. I just think they are running him to much when we have running backs who can carry the burden. Shaf is the future of this team and just don’t want to see him get burned out.

True enuf. Trust Andy to use him properly. O will not be a problem. There is depth and talent. I have no answers on D,just guesses. Agree tho with comment that D is close at least assignment wise.
I am going to relax a bit and enjoy a stress free bye week.

Buddy,Most kids are told the position they are being recruited for. Some kids pick their schools based upon the position they were originally recruited to play. A kid that played both ways in HS probably got recruited on both sides of the ball. As far as kids coming into camp out of shape, you must be talking about the freshman only. After 1 training camp, most players know exactly what is in store and ARE ready. A great example of a kid being recruited for FB,not LB, as he played both in HS is Zach Hayden. Zach struggled to get on the field early and many thought he should be on D. He made a huge impact last season as a FB. If Tyler Ward had wanted to play receiver instead of safety, he would have chosen another school. AND since the play book is huge on both sides of the ball, a switch would not happen until off season. See you on the 11th!

Its real hard watching this D at practice. They just get killed in EVERY passing drill they do. When they do 1st team vs 1st they just get sliced up and down the field. Even when they put 2nd team wrs and qb in, same results. Its not a man 5yds from when guy catches the ball it seems. If LU plays ANY team with a decent throwing QB and WRS that can catch, its going to be a LOOONNNGGG day…..SMH.

I can actually watch every practice from the comfort of my own home. When your in the loop you can do things like that. Yes I’m a real fan, but am privy to things most are not. :)

An optimistic note, 3 of our opponents rolled to day and JMU was beating Albany as of now. Not a weak OOC. After watching PL squads all are winnable ,cept for Fordham.
We should be psyched for Bucknell. No excuses.

Good points, RichH, about this week’s games. Next week should be a telling tale. Can’t afford to play down to anyone’s level.
