    Stony Brook (5-4 in D-1) Ranked 88th
    @
    Lehigh (1-8 in D-1) Ranked 250th
    SB wins 75-71

This will be SB’s third and final PL contest of the pre-season. They have already posted road wins over two PL teams: AU (86-68) and Loyola (76-63). This will be Lehigh’s one and only game against and AE Conference foe this year. Wouldn’t ya know it, Reed and Co. picked the league’s best (AE Preseason Poll) when shopping around for this game months ago.

SB features five starters from last year’s squad and is led by #20, 6’8” / 250 lb., Senior Forward. Jameel Warney. His numbers are impressive, leading the team in scoring (19.2ppg), rebounding (11.2rpg), FG% (.598) and Blocks (11.0 pg). The big guy has hit for 22, 22, 29, 16, and 26 in his last five outings. He’s joined on the front line by fellow senior, 6’7’ McGraw who weighs in at 230. The height, heft, and experience doesn’t stop there but can be found throughout the lineup. Here’s hoping TK is ready to play. He is shown as a projected starter on out Game Notes. Then again, maybe it’d be in our best interests to sit Tim until the League opener on the 30th.

Speaking of Army or should I say “Army West Point,” the Black Knights –thought by many to be the League’s best – fell to Marist (2-6 and ranked #286), on Sunday. What’s more, the game was played up at the Point. The high-flying (fastest tempo in the PL) Army gang surprising hit just 7 of 38 from deep. They continue, however, to lead the PL in 3pt. shooting percentage @ 38.3% – a mark good for #53 on a national basis. Here’s how the defeat went down:

Army will face a tough Monmouth squad on the 28th just two days before coming down to Stabler to kick-off PL play against us on the 30th. We, on the other hand, are off following the SB game. Rest can’t hurt as we await TK’s return.

This looks like a double digit loss. Without TK it could get ugly. I saw a lot of SB’s two best players in HS, Warney and Carson Puriefoy. Both were HS studs in NJ. Having very strong college careers. Opposite games, one big banger and one slight, quick PG/SG. I thought Puriefoy was destined for PL or Ivy as his father played at Bucknell. He went to rival high school of our own Anthony D’Orazio. Warney from traditional power, Roselle Catholic. This is a good SB squad. Lost close at Vanderbilt and W. Kentucky, beat solid Princeton and Hofstra squads, and dominated PL competition. I think you will see them in NCAA field in March.

Hopefully home cookin’ will help. Was JRG versus MSM, when given minutes, an outlier? Will JG finally have an effective, full game contribution? Can we shoot 50% from “three land” again? And will the team as a whole come back with the same great energy shown Saturday night in what looks to be another real acid test for our confidence? A lot to watch tonight regardless of win or lose.

I’m visiting friends just across the Jersey line, and might be able to make this game tonight. Anybody gonna be there?

Old noisy dude in Section 16, Blue seatbacks near the top of the courtside reserved section. Dark brown “LEHIGH” sweatshirt. The more the merrier! I’m optimistic again tonight.

MSM gave me a little hope. JRG was a legit D1 recruit (albeit from a tiny high school) and I think most of his struggles have been due to confidence and a lack of extended minutes. Hoping he can parlay his latest performance into some consistency.

JG seemed active against MSM as well, and that was one of the most complete games I have seen yet out of AP.

Stony Brook is a legit top 100 team – a win here says Lehigh is not rolling over and playing out the string. Big for momentum going into PL play.

While it was nice to score 76 points the last time out and connect on over half our fg attempts, I’m afraid that won’t be enough tonight. Our weakness showed thru in that game, as well, managing to pull down just 28 boards. Do that tonight and we’re doomed. SB holds a 9.6 rpg advantage over their opponents and averages 42.1 boards per game. What’s more, while playing “D” they give up just 21% of the boards. That puts them at 41st best in the nation. Yeah, it was fun to see JRG, DC and the others have their fun against MSM, but the focus had better turn quick to board work tonight if we stand a chance of posting back-to-back wins.

jimk72, sorry about tonight. I’ll catch you instead at the Army game. Look forward to it. Section 4, Roww EE. Brown and White attire for sure.

I’ll say it: It’s a must-win, with or without Mr. Kempton. Lehigh needs a two game home win streak to be taken seriously in PL play. A win here would do that.

Plans are confirmed – I’ll be there. Buying at the door, so don’t know where. I’ll try to find you guys. Reddish jacket over a brown sweater – no real LU gear packed.
My first Stabler game in a LONG time!

Enjoy the game guys (jimk72, toddcudd, and travism)! I’m jealous but holiday/family commitments keep me grounded tonight. Will sneak looks at the computer for sure. See you all on the 30th. Anxious to read your first-hand observations.

Some odd issues with ball-handling and footing early on, but fortunately SB missed a lot of shots early too. And as the half progressed, we warmed up.
Pretty good balance on offense. JRG making an impact again. AP was limited by some early fouls and hasn’t gotten going yet. Winnable, for sure.

Number 20 had six points and one board. And finish with over 20 and ten boards. Difference in second half for sure. Also stony got hot.

Not bad result with no TK. No legs in the second half. Killed us off the boards.
