LU (11-14, 9-5) ranked 194th and tied for 2nd in PL

NAVY (8-19, 9-5) rnaked 180th and tied for 2nd in PL
Navy wins by 5 (69-64)Earlier this year, we dropped a 64-69 decision to Navy at Stabler – a game in which the Mids out-scored us in the Paint 48 to 20 while limiting TK to 5 made FGs. The story of the game, however, was our turnover total of 18 which yielded Navy 21 points. It prompted Coach Reed to say……..
“I’m very disappointed with the outcome tonight. That was a game which, on our own floor, we had a solid opportunity to win. However, unforced errors, turnovers and our ability to protect the interior was ultimately the story of the game.” Reed did, however, point out the solid contributions made by JG and DC, saying, “They were two bright spots in the game. I thought Devon came in, made shots for us and played with energy. Justin Goldsborough was effective, scoring the ball on the interior, he rebounded the basketball and protected the rim. Both of those guys gave us a huge boost. Devon stayed patient and has put together two excellent games in a row; he’s contributed and helped us in a major way. I see Justin surging at this point in the season and hopefully being able to continue as we move forward.”Since that game, LU has gone on a 6-1 tear while the Midshipmen have played inconsistent 3 and 4 basketball. However, they do ride a two game winning streak into play tonight with victoriess over Loyola and Lafayette. What’s odd, however, is that Navy sports the best road record in League play (6-2), yet has trouble racking up wins at home where they have lost their last 3 to AU, BU and CU. In fact, Navy hasn’t won at Annapolis since downing Lafayette on January 16th. Let’s hope the trend continues for just another day.
With three teams (LU, NAVY and BU) tied for 2nd and just one game behind a floundering Bucknell, you can argue each of the remaining 4 games on the slate are important but perhaps none more so than tonight’s encounter with Navy. A Lehigh loss would hand The Midshipmen a series sweep; a win would even our record at 1-1 and match the 1-1 marks we already have on the books with Boston U and Bucknell. In terms of series sweeps and the importance that they have on year-end standings, it’s important to note one particular sweep – should we be able to pull it off – may go in our favor should it come down to us vs. Bucknell when all is said and done. And, that’s the upcoming game at Colgate next Wednesday. Simply, Bucknell has dropped both of their games with The Raiders. We, on the other hand, could earn a series split with a win up north next Wednesday.
PL Live should get a good workout tonight with die-hard fans flipping between games.
February 17, 2016 at 3:01 pm #25547Looking over the matchup and season stats, it looks like 2-pt D, boards, and turnovers will be key here. Navy’s scoring is VERY heavily skewed to 2 pointers. They take and make among the fewest 3s in the nation. However, they make a high % of twos, and get a lot of offensive boards.
They take a lot of free-throws, probably a result of the 2-pt emphasis. Staying out of foul trouble may be key.
On the upside, they are inclined to commit a high number of turnovers – we should take advantage of that, and pack the paint!February 17, 2016 at 3:16 pm #25548In case you’re interested, Phillly.com predicts it’ll be Navy going to the Big Dance.
February 17, 2016 at 6:24 pm #25554KR and KL are playing much better now. Our Gs are the key I think. If we come with the same focus and enefgy expect a W.
February 18, 2016 at 2:26 am #25559Big W. What a game. KR on fire. Doc went woth a vrry short rotatoon tonite? It worked tho. We shot pretty OK
February 18, 2016 at 2:51 am #25560Kr difference maker again
February 18, 2016 at 3:09 am #25562Just saw partial box with no minutes played listed. Only six LU guys scored. Two guys w/ 4 PFs, one with 3. Scary.
KR and JC must have been lights out.
February 18, 2016 at 3:11 am #25563Kinda but they ate thriving on it now. It”s a short season now.
February 18, 2016 at 3:39 am #25564We aren’t going to lose too much when KR and JC made 10/11 from 3. Jesse 7 FG attempts, all triples, made 6. What a night for him. KR amazing all around game. He has really picked up his game over this 6 game run. I was critical of both of these two earlier. JC too 3 heavy and KR not progressing. I was wrong. Both playing great basketball. Turning into a fun season when most of us had them dead and buried.
February 18, 2016 at 3:49 am #25565Well, if dead, we are in the Zombie Apocalypse.: -)
February 18, 2016 at 3:56 am #25567Great, great win for Lehigh. They knock Navy out of that 3-way tie for second, and the Mountain Hawks remain tied with Boston U for second, one game behind Bucknell.
I’m keeping my fingers crossed that Lehigh will be playing a home game on Sunday 3/6 so I can attend.
February 18, 2016 at 2:40 pm #25571With last night’s hot shooting from behind the arc – 60.9% – LU is now up to #17 nationally in 3pt percentage at 39.5%. Conference-only is up to a crazy 43.4%.
As expected, Navy was very successful from 2 at 62.9%, but our shooting was enough to carry us through. Next!!February 18, 2016 at 3:58 pm #25574Sunday now even tougher. How to avoid a letdown. And the hapless ‘Pards have nothing to lose.
Jesse, Justin, and Devon last regular season home game. Hopefully we can send them out with a good Senior Day crowd.
February 18, 2016 at 4:35 pm #25575BU at Bucknell this weekend. We will handle Leopards at home, and worst case scenario be solo second place after the weekend. If BU can win, tied for first.
Few huge games left:
BU at Bucknell
Lehigh at Colgate
Bucknell at Navy -
