Quick Study on Army per our Game Notes
Army has come on down the stretch, winning five straight following two consecutive home losses to
Lehigh and Bucknell. Since, the Black Knights have beaten Lafayette, Navy, Colgate, American and
Holy Cross. Army has won four straight on the road after starting 2-8 away from home. Preseason
All-Patriot League honoree Ella Ellis leads the team with 17.5 points per game. Kyle Wilson comes
in at 12.9 while Josh Herbeck (who’s missed some time due to injury) averages 8.9, Kyle Toth 8.6 and
Dylan Cox 6.2. A very young squad, Army started three freshmen and two seniors. Cox leads the
team in rebounding (5.2) while Jordan Springer comes in at 4.1 boards per game. The Black Knights
are second in the Patriot League in scoring (only behind Lehigh), averaging 72.7 points per game.

    Playoff Possibilities per PL Website

Bucknell: The Bison have clinched the No. 1 seed and home court advantage in each round of the League tourney
Lafayette: The Leopards will be the No. 2 seed with a win over American. If they lose, Lafayette would drop to the No. 3 seed.
Lehigh: The Mountain Hawks can move to the No. 2 seed with a win over Army and Lafayette loss to American. Lehigh would be the No. 3 seed if Lafayette wins, regardless of its result against the Black Knights. The Mountain Hawks would fall to No. 4 with a loss to Army and a Lafayette loss to American.
Army: The Black Knights can jump to the No. 2 seed with a win and a Lafayette loss to American. Army is the No. 4 seed if it loses to Lehigh or Lafayette beats American.
American: The Eagles will be the No. 5 seed in the Patriot League Tournament if they beat Lafayette or Colgate loses at Holy Cross. They fall to the No. 6 with a loss and a Colgate win.
Colgate: The Raiders can move up to the No. 5 spot with a win at Holy Cross and an American loss to Lafayette, but would be No. 6 if they lose or American wins.
Holy Cross: The Crusaders are locked into the No. 7 seed.
Navy: The Mids will be the No. 8 seed.

    > Soon to be 2nd Lt. Jason Pancoe, 6’2″ Guard
    > Soon to be 2nd Lt. Jordan Springer, 6’6″ Forward
    > CJ McCollum – no need to say more…you know the story
    > Holden Greiner – no need to say more…you know the story
    > Gabe Knutson – no need to say more…you know the story
    > BJ Bailey (academically a senior) – no need to say more…you know the story
    > Cory Goodman…..Someone who before coming to Lehigh was Team captain at Episcopal Academy under coach Daniel Dougherty…….Averaged 18 points and five assists per game as a senior…… Recipient of the Daniel J. Dougherty Basketball Award….…Played with Wayne Ellington of the Minnesota Timberwolves and Gerald Henderson (Charlotte Bobcats) in high school……… Played in the Philadelphia 2009 All-Star Labor Classic……… Played AAU Basketball for Sam Rines………Named a Rise Academy Second Team All Inter-Academic League……..… Member of the Honor Roll………and someone who, while at Lehigh, chose to major in Civil Engineering and Architecture…………..whose favorite place on campus is the gym………….. who has scored 20 points in his 29-game college career yet someone who can proudly point to a .429 FG% this year……..someone who works hard at practice every day………..someone who is a crowd favorite…………..someone who deserves our thanks and respect for his performance as scholar “walk-on” athlete….. and someone whom I hope gets his first career start tomorrow night.

    Here’s one to Ponder
    > Will CJ – if “bootless” – join his roommates Gabe and Holden, along with Cory, and BJ (academically a senior) out at center court for the start of tomorrow’s game. Even if he were lifted seconds after the ball was put into play, wouldn’t it be a special moment in time to witness.

I think the only way that would be possible would be if the two coaches agreed beforehand to have the team that wins the jump ball immediately travel or toss the ball OB and then have the other team return it to them on the inbound pass – as often happens in soccer.   Otherwise, in a game that matters, I doubt Reed wants to potentially have CJ on the court for the first couple of minutes if there are no early whistles.    And in a game that matters, I doubt he wants to have LU deliberately foul or commit a violation to get the clock stopped right after the center jump.    That one lost possession could cost them the game and possibly drop LU to a 4th seed.

HG oustanding today! 24 and 14…that’s a double-double! JG comes off the bench to get 11.
Lehigh has momentum going into the post season and a first-round opponent in Colgate that
they will be anxious to exact revenge for the loss in Hamilton

LU 3rd Seed! Rather 2, but hey it’s better than 4.

Glad we won it today against class competition. By no means are we backing into the Playoffs.

Sr./Fr. Combo of Ellis/Wilson score 46. Pity Army’s next opponent….and perhaps the one after that….well, maybe not.

CJH-inspired Greiner goes off with 24pt. and 14 rebounds. Certainly not ready for season to end with 62 pts. in last three games.

Another 4 players in double-figure day.

Another day when “if it’s not AD, then it’s SC, or it’s CS, or it’s BJ, or it’s MM.” Today it was CS with deuces wild performance ……….. perfect 4-4 day (2-2 from deep), 2 FTs, 2 rebounds, 2 assists.

Walk-on Sr. Goodman gets start, goes 1-1 (first 2pts. of the game) and an assist. Special kid.

Goldsborough misses third dunk of the season but responds with career best 11 pts.

Nine players play, nine players score.

LU wins the rebounding battle! 32-30.

FTs back to a somewhat normal performance level…….20-27 day (74.1%).

Back to back with 20 win seasons – believe it’s a first for us.

LU bench produces 28 pts. and 10 boards.

Steals……another day at the office. 7 Today. PL Season Average: 7. Twenty-eight Season-long Average: 7.25.

Let the 3rd season begin: Colgate in 3 vs. 6 “payback battle” on Wednesday.

Season ticket-holders, your seats are being held. Call and pay up!

Nice win on senior day, a lot went right today from the opening tip including Goodman starting the scoring for Lehigh. Greiner playing like a man possessed, really shining right now and leading. Bench play was so solid, Schaefer and Goldy were big off the bench!

We’re officially in playoff time, survive and advance baby. And if chalk  holds and we keep winning, we’d have a chance to avenge all of our league losses with gate up next, perhaps then Laf, and the BU…if chalk holds that is..and we got to do our part and it starts wednesday.

Colgate has three road wins all season (only Navy in league play) and they limped to the
finish going 1-3 in their last four game.
If Lehigh remembers what happened up in Hamilton, I like our chances
