How BU beat Bucky Last Week
Senior Will Goff torched the Bison (7-8, 1-1 PL) with a career-high five 3-pointers en route to a personal-best 17 points off the bench, while sophomore Tyler Scanlon claimed his first-ever double-double with a career-high 10 rebounds and 14 points. Senior and reigning PL Player of the Week Cedric Hankerson added 21 points and four assists, as the Terriers (6-7, 2-0 PL) snapped Bucknell’s 15-game home win streak, which was the seventh longest active mark in the nation. How BU lost to LUM Last Week
Trying to mount a rally from an 11-point second-half deficit, the Boston University men’s basketball team missed the go-ahead hook shot with five seconds remaining, as Loyola Maryland escaped, 68-65, on Friday night at Reitz Arena.Read more:

Last year, after coming back from two knee injuries, Hankerson turned into nothing but a long-range jump shooter. Almost 83% of his FG attempts were threes and he drew only 2.9 fouls per 40 (2.4 in PL games). This year about 50% of his shots are inside the arc, and he is drawing 5.7 fouls per 40 (8.6 in PL games).
If he continues his recent play, he has a shot at 1st team All-PL.
January 9, 2018 at 1:02 am #334741st half was fun. Down 49-25. BU hitting almost 70% from 3. Our perimeter D so far consists of our Gs chasing BU Gs from behind. Lots if open looks for BU. Truly ugly. WBB is fun.
January 9, 2018 at 1:02 am #33475Terrible first half. Embarrassing
January 9, 2018 at 2:04 am #33477Coach can’t sit in the same zone defense the entire first half and watch the other team shoot lights out. Changed to man in the second half and made the score more respectable.
January 9, 2018 at 2:12 am #33478Abysmally frustrating. Doc still not a good game coach. Man D helped as did greater intensity in 2nd ( Caveat we gabe up only 43 in 2nd). We seem incapable of playing an entire game.
Upside. Liked seeing Sedore get some PT.
Doc says D travels. Apparently forgot to unpack it until the 2nd half. This team is getting like the football team. We need to out score to win with this D.-

January 9, 2018 at 3:01 am #33481Got drubbed and other team’s best player didn’t suit up.
January 9, 2018 at 3:03 am #33482And, 403 in the stands. Yikes.
January 9, 2018 at 3:05 am #33483True. But, hey we didnt play D . If he played we lose ny more.Doc noted we didnt communicate on D in the 1st half. Guess that explains watchig us chase BU Gs. No timely switches
January 9, 2018 at 6:25 pm #33484Great…..No Hankerson (PL Leading Scorer @ 20.7ppg) for BU……No Problem. WRONG! What else could we have been thinking?
Our guard was down and in stepped the quartet of: Goff, White, Mahoney and Scanlon. All top double-digit scorers in the PL. with two – and I’m not counting #1 Hankerson – in the Top 10. They didn’t disappoint, scoring 72 of the team’s 92. It all starts with “D” as we are so often reminded. Last night, it never got off the bus.
Coach Reed summed it up pretty well when we said in the post-game interview, “Whether you look at the first half or you look at the second half, defensively, we have to improve…..The number of points we gave up in the paint were ridiculous in the second half and in the first half, we didn’t have any answers to slow them down….We tried different defensive looks just to see if we could break their rhythm, but nothing was able to stop them enough.”On the positive side, it was good to see CS get some playing time, even if it was short-termed and done to protect others in foul trouble. You must admit, we proved once again that we can shoot the long ball. Five guys drained at least one with the team going 14 for 32. We remain atop the PL in league contests. hitting 43.8% from behind the arc. The way we’re struggling on “D,” that may be our saving grace and key to keeping the score close.
Up next: Bucky from Lewisburg
PL Today
Bucky, CU and BU – all 3-1
LU 2-2
LC 2-2
AWP 2-2
Navy 2-2
LUM 2-2
HC 1-3
AU 0-4
Thursday should be fun with LU @ Bucky and CU @ BUJanuary 9, 2018 at 7:36 pm #33486I’m wondering if Coach is rethinking the strategy of recruiting a JUCO transfer, who is now academically ineligible. Can’t defend the paint with guards. Took a risk, and got burned.
January 9, 2018 at 8:00 pm #33487yeah, and the other transfer gets lost on D often, although he sure can score the rock
January 10, 2018 at 5:30 am #33491BU was putting on a post-up clinic on Lehigh’s interior forwards, as if they’d been waiting for TK to graduate for four years to execute their gameplan. Andree had moments where offensively he was sharp, but it was mixed overall with all the forwards getting pushed around. That can’t last if Lehigh is to contend the rest of the year.
