September 26, 2013 at 8:26 pm #11453September 26, 2013 at 10:42 pm #11454Look forward to watching highlights later, but initial thought sight unseen is thank god another guard has entered the program! Kidding aside I hope he is legit, never know with international guys maybe we get lucky.
September 30, 2013 at 3:55 pm #11508From highlights, it is clear that this guy is another PG. He looks pretty solid fundamentally, handling and shooting the ball. Moves pretty well off the ball as well. I would not call him a premium athlete, probably below average athletically, but looks to have a skill set similar to CS. CS, however, has shown his game translates to the PL, not sure this guy will be able to say that, as the competition looks pretty soft. Not scared to take it to the hole, and he is able to finish and dish in traffic. Not sure he will have the foot speed or quickness to really contribute at this level, but we will see. The knock on the Euro player is typically they play limited defense. Hopefully, that is not the case, as he won’t play at all if he can’t defend.
What is puzzling is the number of PG’s on this roster. MM, CS, MS, this guy, and maybe CR (might be more of a 2). That is 5 potential PGs, and both of your walk on spots, potentially. Not sure it will matter, as he may just be a practice body. But, I will be rooting for George-ee to get some run.
September 30, 2013 at 3:57 pm #11509Also, forgot to mention, he doesn’t show a ton of range as a shooter. Looks comfortable just inside the 3 point line. Not sure I would put him in the category of the Euro shooter. He is not in the SC category as a shooter from distance.
September 30, 2013 at 4:05 pm #11510he is a walk on right? What do u expect?
September 30, 2013 at 4:51 pm #11512Not sure of his game but doubt he has the skill set of CS or SC. CR is being projected as a two I would guess and not a typical walk-on. He was offered multiple D2 scholarships and preferred w/o spots at power 6 conferences from what I hear. As for George hope he sticks it out and contributes to the program. Maybe this will lead LU to an overseas trip to Greece in the future.
September 30, 2013 at 4:55 pm #11513hey Pafan, it sounds like you have some inside info on Cole’s recruitment. I’d be very interested to hear what you know about who else was interested, how he ended up at LU, what his expectations are, etc.
September 30, 2013 at 5:14 pm #11514I am located about 20 miles from CRs high School, just outside of Williamsport and know many teachers and coaches from Central Mountain. I know for a fact that he was offered multiple scholarships from PSAC schools as well as preferred walk 0n spots at Duq, Penn State, Syracuse, and Pitt. Gerry McNamara actually came to one of his games to watch him play from what I hear. I have heard and read in local media that he chose LU for the academics and the belief that the PL was the right fit competition wise. I also read in his Bio on LU site that the coaches made him believe he would have an opportunity to compete to play. I am unaware of his expectations but everything I have heard is that he is a gym rat and tremendous worker. I am sure he expects to contribute at some point in his career.
September 30, 2013 at 6:12 pm #11515Awesome insight Pafan. Definitely sounds like Cole had quite a few options and I’m glad he ended up in Bethlehem.
October 1, 2013 at 5:14 pm #11519I don’t think either guy is a “typical” walk on. One guy, with a lot of interest at various levels, and huge scorer in high school, plus athlete. Other guy coming across the ocean, from a strong non-US basketball country, with high level leagues, and has played for his national team. I think it may be fair to have some expectations for these two. Doesn’t appear to be the typical, played in high school, solid 15 ppg scorer, and maybe an All-County or All-City lower tier, honorable mention, that Lehigh typically would have walking on.
October 1, 2013 at 5:21 pm #11521I agree I didn’t mean to slight George, I am unaware of the level of play in Greece but sounds like he has some solid credentials.
