Lehigh wins 67-62 (71% chance)January 16, 2015 at 8:13 pm #17663Dare I say, must win.
January 17, 2015 at 7:04 pm #17672Holy Cross’ starting PG, Anthony Thompson, hurt his shoulder last game and will not play today. His absence is a big deal for the HC offense.
January 17, 2015 at 7:15 pm #17673Burrell generally runs the point, no? Not to diminish the loss, but I’d think that Burrell is key play-maker…
January 17, 2015 at 7:47 pm #17674No, Burrell doesn’t play the point that often if Thompson is in – although he does get his share of assists the way they run the offense. Thompson became the regular PG halfway through last year. In fact, Eric Green ran the point a lot last game after Thompson got hurt. Burrell, despite his size, really is more of a two in terms of skill set. A number of HC fans don’t think he should be starting at all.
Neither of them is a good outside shooter – which is an issue if you’re 5-9 or 5-7. HC overall is a poor outside shooting team.
January 17, 2015 at 11:12 pm #17679Found the key to us getting Ws. Me being tortured by the dentist during game. Oh well anything I csn do to help, I guess
January 17, 2015 at 11:43 pm #17680did not see the game, but how do we only win by 5 with that disparity in shooting %
January 18, 2015 at 12:08 am #17681We played an amazing first half, Van. Very efficient, and a fast pace. If I remember correctly, we had 44 at the end of the first. HC couldn’t hit the ocean in that first half, too.
The game slowed down a LOT in the second half. Our shooting wasn’t nearly as good, and HC’s got better. But at the slower pace, we had built enough lead to hang on. Overall % looks good, but largely due to great shooting on a high volume in the first half.January 18, 2015 at 12:14 am #17682Also we missed 14 of 31 free throws! That apparently led to them getting 61 FG attempts to our 47. Make a decent % at foul line and this probably isn’t close. I taped this (new to the DVR world!) so I’ll have a better idea later.
January 18, 2015 at 12:23 am #17683Just a quick note about the Holy Cross fan forum, which is currently a dumpster fire over this game and the coaching staff. A sampling:
“Was CMB unaware that Kempton is probably the best player in the league? Maybe he should have prepared the team to defend him before the game, rather than at halftime. Does this staff watch any film of their opponents, or do they just show up and declare that they are going to “play our game”?”
January 18, 2015 at 12:33 am #17684Yeah, I’ve never actually checked out the HC board, but I gather it gets pretty ugly. However, in all honesty, they have a good point this time. The guys doing the coverage on the webcast seemed surprised, too. HC never seemed to even try to double TK in the first, and he ate them up. They did adjust in the 2nd, and it was the likely cause of the difference in our output.
