I plan on going. Will anyone else be there?
I just got my tickets for the Lehigh sponsored 76er game. Is anyone else going to that? Brett Reed and Sue Troyan will be in the box too. Is there any questions that I should ask either?
January 19, 2013 at 5:50 pm #8971I miss 65 notes, and out of respect and fear of failure, I don’t even try to live up to his efforts.
TMH – when is LU sixers game?
January 20, 2013 at 1:02 am #8974Great 1st half, jumped on them early and kept foot on the gas. D’Orazio mann, wow, playing at a high level and really confident. Greiner again big time effort. Mackey stuffing stat sheet, 6 points, 4 dimes, 3 steals at the half. Depth scoring, GK with 5, BJ with 5…Goldy had his best offensive move of the year I tell you..wow, little drop stop left handed hook…just unreal, didn’t know he had it in him..you see these little glimpses and how they are becoming mroe normal and you have to be excited about it…man he has huge huge huge upsdie.
January 20, 2013 at 2:34 am #8976Great D. Shut down Burnatowski totally. Coasted 2nd half. Cant do that Wed.
GK 0 rebounds?
Looking forward to trip out on Wed.January 20, 2013 at 3:16 am #8979This was a strange game for me. We played a near flawless first half. Really, really tough defense especially on the perimeter. Did a lot of doubling which produced a bunch of steals. everywhere.
I was very impressed with AD too. Nice spot up shooting, good hustle and tough defense. HG had a real nice 1st half. He is flying to the ball on the glass and diving all over the floor. JG gave me a scare though. From my vantage point, it looked like a guy fell right on his chest as he was sprawled on the floor. He still played fairly actively and as Hoops said made a real nice post move. CB reminded me of JGs outing a couple of games ago. He had 5 boards in 8 minutes and I don’t recall any being gimmes.
I hope Brett is not using Andy’s halftime speech. We tend to come out a bit slow after halftime. Usually we’re back in rhythm after 3-4 minutes. Not tonight. We came out shooting cold and never thawed. Fortunately, it didn’t affect our defense and Colgate shot terribly.
I have to say it. Gabe is completely out of synch and I think it’s psychological now. He looked clearly frustrated. He got the ball a little outside his normal comfort zone early, backed in strong and made a nice 3 point play during the 1st 30 seconds of the game. He was virtually a non-factor after that. He missed 2 fairly easy layups in a short span in the 2nd half. The problem is that next on the agenda is Bucknell and Mr. Muscala.
LUHoops00. The Sixers game is on February 1. It’s a great deal. Club Box, although in the corner of the court, 3 hours of buffet and drinks. Brett Reed and Sue Troyan will be among the guests. Postgame there is a meet and greet with Doug Collins and little talk by the 3 coaches. Cost $89/ticket. I think they sold out in less than 24 hours. Is anyone else going? Are there any questions I should ask?January 20, 2013 at 3:40 am #8982Just penned a postgame write-up, but to TMH point, check out this tweet from GK man.
Gabe Knutson@GabeRoy42
Proud of this team. Couldn’t be more happy with the wins and everyone covering my back. 3-0
Clearly this is in his head, and he needs to get his confidence back.
Mackey was the man, just so solid on both ends, active hands on D ended up with 5 steals. Hit 3-balls on offense, mid-range, and sliced into heart of D with his dribble penetration.
Holden was solid early with the points, and great on the glass, 12 rebounds, 12 points, double double.
AD, man, he is playing so well right now, unreal…8 rebounds and double figure points again. Hustling, scrapping, loving it.
JG – yeah that was scary as he sliced in for offensive rebound between a few ‘gate guys he got basically stomped on, but he came back solid.
BJB active hands, 3 blocked shots, still rounding into shape but more active…good to see.
BIg win, showdown now on Wednesday with BU, should be fun to watch.TMH – to your point, I’d hammer questions on JC, how he is looking, what is he working on, what role do you enviion for him next year?
And perhaps you drill into TKempton’s game, what is his post up game like, or is he more perimeter oriented. Get a feel for TK game.January 20, 2013 at 3:53 am #8983After shooting the lights out early we went cold late in the first half and for most of the second half, missing open looks and contested layups.
I thought Colgate’s increased physical play in the second half contributed some to this, but the officiating didn’t help. They seemed to call several ricky-ticky fouls on several occasions, then allowed a mugging the next several times down. Doc made reference to something about “outside influences” during radio post game, so he wasn’t particularly fond of the stripes tonight either. Second half was rather choppy and downright ugly at times. But I was very impressed that we never lost composure and continued to keep them tied down defensively.
We’ll need this defensive intensity for a full 40 minutes again Wednesday to have any chance.
January 20, 2013 at 5:34 am #8987Held another opponent in the 40’s and held their leader to 1-13 shooting. No complaints. Keep up the defensive intensity.
January 20, 2013 at 4:31 pm #8993Thanks for the great coverage of the game, Guys. Still cruisin’. Will return to Ft. Lauderdale on Monday and, of course, be at the Bucknell game. What a year this is going to be!
January 20, 2013 at 4:46 pm #8994LU65…BTW, there is a Howard Johnson less than 1/4 mi off of Exit 302 (Rte 611). It seems like that may be a good pickup location for Wednesday. If it works for you, can you give me an ETA so that I can be timely?
January 20, 2013 at 5:57 pm #8999Coach may not be able to say right now but, is BJ coming back next year? I have the feeling this kid has not come close to tapping his potential. There were a few sequences which seemed to feature him in isolation and he exploded into the lane with the ball but did not seem to have a plan about how to finish. Most times he will dish to a big – his passing off the dribble is lightning fast – but he does not seem to look to finish himself often. His unique athleticism which allows him to break down a defender/block shots/etc should make him a great finisher as well ..
January 21, 2013 at 4:38 pm #9011Hawks, agree 100% on BJB. He really can slash off the dribble, with a quick burst first step, but when he gets into the lane, he has no idea on how to finish. If he could develop some sort of pull up short jumper, his offensive game would rise substantially. His problem is that if he doesn’t pull up, he is a little small to finish at the rim. He is trying to take it up to guys 6″ taller than him. So, I would like to see him focus on his outside shooting and a pull up game off the dribble. He could also, perhaps, post up smaller guards on the block, but, again, not sure if he has any moves to finish (fade away baseline jumper, drop step).
It’s funny with BJB, I was speaking to my neighbor who has a son the exact same age as BJB, who is also a very good college player. He played against BJB every year from 4th grade through high school in travel basketball, school basketball and AAU basketball and has seen him play probably 50-100 games at the various levels. He has never seen BJB play in college other than an occasional Lehigh TV game. He said to me the other day that BJB has always been a premium athlete at every age, with limitless ability. But, he never has seemed to progress to what everyone thought he could be when he was young. Through high school, he was successful on pure athleticism, but because he was so athletic, he never had to develop his game. He has been raw talent his entire career, but at the college level you need to feature more to have success. Obviously, he was derailed a great bit by injury, but even now, late in his college career, we are still waiting for him to develop, as we see such potential in his athleticism. Is he a lock down defender only? A three point shooter? A slasher? I think he could be all of those things, but time is running short. I am hopeful he can maximize his ability over the next half season, or season and a half.
January 21, 2013 at 7:18 pm #9019TMH, if you get a chance at the 76ers event, I’d love to know if LU has any scholarship restrictions in hoops. Do we only give out 12? or the NCAA limit of 13? I’d also love to know if there are any facility upgrades in the pipeline, although I doubt there are.
January 21, 2013 at 8:22 pm #9021For what it’s worth, BJ is listed as a Junior on the web site roster.
