Al Pierce has played an key role in Lehigh’s victories in the last three Lehigh-Lafayette games.

In 2008 he was in the face of the Lafayette QB when he threw the pick six to Kennedy that wrapped up the victory.

Last year his INT locked up the OT victory.

This year he is game MVP.

Call it the Pierce-Arrow (also a great car) in Lafayette’s heart.

:D What a game. D was super. Pierce clutch all day and Groome. Great to see Phil play again. Will he be back next year? Pards put up a great fight but as they have done all year shot them selves repeatedly in various body parts. Reminds me of some of our recent squads. Sun 10:00am will be playoff matches.

Yes, Winnett will be back next year with a medical redshirt. Coen confirmed at luncheon earlier this week. Pierce really deserved the MVP…any other defensive player ever win it?

Several Defensive players have won it…the last was Lehigh’s Matt Salvaterra in 2000

That’s a great point about the 2008 game, I forgot about that, he was there on the blitz. On the same subject, I don’t think anyone in the Patriot League has had two all-league players at ILB, correct?

With Groome and Pierce on the inside, I think this LB unit is as good or better than those great Lafayette teams in the mid-noughties with Witherspoon, Romans on their unit. Hard to compare a 3-4 and 4-3 defense, but I think it’s a possibility.

Pierce played an incredible game and certainly deserved the honor of being named MVP. He has really come to play the last few years against Lafayette and has been instrumental in the 3-peat.

Groome played one heck of a game as well. It seemed as if those two were in on each and every tackle, and it was fitting that they teamed up for the final stop of the game.
