K. Doyle’s report, soon to be published on rushthecourt.net. Hit the link below and scan down to "It’s Basketball Season."

Predicted Order of Finish:
1. Bucknell 10-4
2. Lafayette 9-5
3. Holy Cross 8-6
4. American 8-6
5. Lehigh 8-6
6. Colgate 5-9
7. Navy 5-9
8. Army 3-11October 12, 2010 at 2:15 pm #2441Fifth? Really?
October 12, 2010 at 7:47 pm #2449No surprises, here. Expect consensus to show LU anywhere from 2nd to 5th in the standings. Doubt the Coach’s Poll will vary much from what you read above and see below. Remember, Lehigh has some big shoes to fill this year. Hall, Carrington, Buchberger, and Shamis were special. The four graduates accounted for 38.7% of the points scored, 33% of the rebounds, and 43% of the minutes played last year. On the other side of the coin, for example, you have Bucknell who returns 9 of their top 10 players.
Here are some earlier pre-season releases.
Sporting News Patriot League:
1) Lafayette
2) American
3) Holy Cross
4) Bucknell
5) Lehigh
6) Navy
7) Colgate
8) ArmyAthlon’s Patriot League:
1) Lafayette
2) Lehigh
3) Bucknell
4) American
5) Holy Cross
6) Navy
7) Colgate
8) ArmyLindy’s Patriot League:
1) Bucknell
2) American
3) Lehigh
4) Lafayette
5) Holy Cross
6) Navy
7) Colgate
8) ArmyOctober 13, 2010 at 4:17 am #2452Here is one site that begs to differ. Rivals has their prediction here: http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/blog/the_dagger/post/Patriot-League-preview-C-J-McCollum-lifts-Lehi?urn=ncaab-275865#remaining-content.
The predicted order is:
1. Lehigh
2. Bucknell
3. American
4. Navy
5. Holy Cross
6. Lafayette
7. Colgate
8. ArmyRivals focuses not on what Lehigh has lost… but on what remains. They see C. J. as a special player on a team with enough talent to win the league. Lehigh will not win the league in the dominating fashion they did last year, but expect them to battle for the title right to the end of year.
October 13, 2010 at 1:14 pm #2453Didn’t rivals.com predict it to be a Bucknell (1st), American (2nd) , Lehigh (3rd) finish? Not that it matters a whole lot. Here’s a link to their October 7th PL Review in which they have kind things to say about CJ, show Bucknell at the top of their predicted order of finish, and rank the PL as the 26th (out of 32) strongest conference in America.

October 13, 2010 at 1:24 pm #2454Here’s the Rivals.com prediction showing LU at the top. I’m confused. Maybe two authors at rivals.com, Matt Norlander and Joe Rexrod, disagreed on the order of finish?! Norlander’s was published on 10/10 and Rexrod’s on 10/7. Whatever the case, it’s all good reading.

October 13, 2010 at 2:36 pm #2455Some of these previews seem to downgrade Holy Cross way too much. HC was picked for 1st last year by the coaches and returns 8 of their top 9 players, including three All-PL candidates. They had three issues last year – no true PG (other than a freshman who didn’t play much), weaker defense than they had under Ralph Willard, and poor coaching in general. Bringing in Milan Brown as coach may solve at least two of the three problems.
