Lehigh is ranked around #22 in the AnyGivenSaturday.com poll. The most accurate of all FCS polls over the past few years when their final poll is compared with the playoff outcome.

#30 in FCS coaches poll, unfortunately the one that counts with NCAA, although agree that FCS and Athlon have more knowledgeable pollsters and more accurate, at any rate keep winning and keep moving up

Beat Fordham and life is good. Lose and the season is for naught. Could be the biggest game in the last 20 years.

Or Lafayette any year (not to mention all the playoff games too).

Lafayette is a faux rivalry, mostly the older crowd who cares, pre 1970 grads. Students go for the drinking and if they even attend are gone by middle of the 2nd qtr.

Yeah, that Rivalry that routinely sells out stadiums really is a “faux rivalry”. If that’s the case, I wish all our games were “faux rivalries”.

Actually it’s residents of the Lehigh Valley that care the most…townies. My point being students are mostly blase about the “rivalry”.

I think Buck’s just trying to rile us up. Not sure if that was an option on the Buck poll the other day.

That said, I do appreciate Buck’s posts here.

LU-LAF is the real LU homecoming game, particularly when it’s home. And students still connect with alumni at that game — before and after.

I didn’t see 33,000 LV residents at Yankee Stadium two years back. Many came in from all parts of the country.

I was just gonna let it go. But my bloody lip from the goalpost fight after the last game in Taylor says “not faux”.
In fairness, I’ll grant that the Lehigh-Lafayette madness on campus is as big to undergrads as the game itself. But it’s not meaningless. I think the importance grows to LU students as they get older, even after they graduate. Maybe even moreso after graduation. But Lehigh-Lafayette week was the biggest deal on campus, period. In early 90’s at least.

The attendance at that “faux rivalry” game was actually 48,256. The largest crowd to ever see a college game at Yankee Stadium.

The Penn State/Boston College game (Pinstripe Bowl) a month later ended up topping it with an official attendance of 49,012. However, that was the only Pinstripe Bowl that topped Lehigh/Lafayette 150 attendance-wise; even the 2013 Pinstripe Bowl that featured Notre Dame and Rutgers didn’t draw as many fans as the 150 game.

BTW, I’m originally from the Lehigh Valley but live in the DC area now and have no formal ties to either Lehigh or Lafayette, but I was there (thanks to Lafayette fan on the AGS and Lafayette Sports Forum sites, “Pards Rule”).

It’s along the lines of Williams – Amherst, Moravian – Muhlenberg, Emporia St. – Washburn.

Small groups of excited older fans who pretend to care for a few hours then go back to their overweight wives.
