KenPom Rankings and Prediction
LU (7-6, 1-1) Ranked 101st
@
Loyola (7-6. 1-1) Ranked 2654th
LU wins by 14 (78-64)Mr. Pomeroy was off base last week in 3 of his 5 predictions, but nearly nailed it in Bucky’s win over Army’s by 8. Let’s hope he does better this week – including a big win by LU.
It’s probably too early to worry, but while LU is ranked 29th in the nation in 3-poinnt accuracy at 39.6%, we’re dead last in the PL Conference play at 24.4%. We’re also 10th in the Conference in something KenPom refers to as Offensive Efficiency (OE) at 84.1 – a reflection of the number of points we might be expected to score in 100 possessions. Pomeroy also tags us 9th in Offensive Rebounding @ 19.3/game. I mention these stats because our opponent on Thursday, Loyola, is 3rd in Offensive Efficiency, 1st in Offensive Rebounding and has defended the three pretty well 30.8% – good for PL’s 4th best – in games played against AU and LC.
What else might we expect to see on Thursday? How about………
a continuation of our home court dominance? Since that dark day back in March when HC got the best of us, we’re 4 and 0 at Stabler.
two recruits brought on because of their ability to knock down 3’s (JC and PA), showing us their 1 for 11 exploits to date in League play is not indicative of what we can expect going forward.
an appearance by Mr. Lieb. Just what do we have in this 6’10” Brewster Academy grad? We certainly can use help off the bench and not likely to go all the way to a Championship playing eight men a game.
KL reprising memories of perhaps his best game last season – a home outing against Loyola in which the first year man scored 20 on 7 for 10 shooting in 39 minutes. FYI, KR joined the party that night kicking in 16 with 8 helpers. Can the two do it again?
a good crowd – say 1300 or so. We presently rank 5th in the league, attracting a home crowd which now averages 976/game. Bucknell tops the chart with 2,394/game. Boston U. sits in last place with a following of 591 fans.
or simply
a comfortable win marked by solid play on both ends of the court….anything to take away the sting of Monday afternoon’s performance up in Boston.
Finally, in an 18-game schedule, all games become “big.” But how about the clash next Wednesday out in Lewisburg when TK takes on Bucknell’s Nana Foulland . The latter just picked up his second Rock Patriot League Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. TK owns four of the weekly honors so far this season.
January 4, 2017 at 3:51 pm #30209which Loyola shows, the one that shot over 56% against American or less than 37% against Lafayette?

January 5, 2017 at 4:51 am #30213Would anyone else take 14 and Loyola, honestly? No Sands near me, though.
Hopefully I’ll be convinced otherwise, soon. This team has such potential, just like last year.
January 5, 2017 at 1:01 pm #30214let’s hope home cooking gets them out of their shooting slump
January 5, 2017 at 4:25 pm #30215A couple of additional things to watch for: Loyola seems to score a high percentage of their points in the paint. As mentioned above, very good offensive rebounding, they also don’t take or make a lot of 3s, and they seem to draw a lot of fouls. Lots of FTs. Would be good to have JL ready, just in case.
They create a lot of turnovers – which is worrisome – but they also commit a lot of turnovers too.January 5, 2017 at 11:38 pm #30217Fallon (WEEX) just announced that Lehigh many be down a starter tonight. Details to follow during interview with Reed 10 minutes before tip.
January 5, 2017 at 11:58 pm #30218It’s KL — ill. Probably see a lot of JC.
January 6, 2017 at 1:27 am #30219not disappointed in Alston, got his charging foul after only 30 secs
January 6, 2017 at 2:05 am #30222A clean sweep for Loyola vs LU Bball.
Gut punch loss for Men. Epic collapse in last 5 minutes. We play zero D all night.
Seems we are repeating so mych of the same lack of focus as last year. We should be a better squad this year but we are notJanuary 6, 2017 at 2:08 am #30223This team is seriously so overrated. I am sick and tired of them letting off the pedal and coasting through games thinking they can win and pull it out. This loss is really really bad. Brett Reed better figure something and soon. I blame him as much as the players. I knew walker was shooting that ball. But yet Holba is out on him at end of game. I am so Disgusted with that loss.
January 6, 2017 at 2:11 am #30224I think coaches have to shoulder most of this one, not running the O in the last 2 minutes very costly
Holba was not on Walker, he was helping on the screen, and they were trying to go inside but ran out of time and Walker chucked it
January 6, 2017 at 2:11 am #30225Anytime for the most part we went inside to Tim we got a good look and a basket or drew the foul. But we feel the need to keep shooting threes. I don’t get it. No excuses. This team needs to be called out. Patriot league pre season favorite. I think not
January 6, 2017 at 2:12 am #30227Trying not to say anything too negative.
I only watched last three minutes or so, but this was embarrassing. It would have been one thing to flop like this vs. Xavier, but Loyola?
What’s the explanation? Trying to peak in February/March? Lack of fan support?
Giving up such a huge lead with so little time left is ridiculous, even down KL.
On the last shot, MH made the Loyola shooter look like Stephen Curry.
January 6, 2017 at 2:19 am #30229I’m outta here!
Lost me for the season!
January 6, 2017 at 2:20 am #30230Lack of defense and the turnovers last few mins killed us. We let off the pedal. This team does not learn. Very bad loss. We must win the next two now. Up nine with two mins and lose is not acceptable
