    FROM THE MORNING CALL:

Matt McBride was called up Wednesday by the Oakland Athletics, the team announced.

The Lehigh and Liberty High product was hitting .188 in 11 games with Triple-A Nashville. The 30-year-old has a .199 career average in the majors, which spanned 72 games over three seasons (2012, 2014-15) with the Rockies.

McBride, who signed a free-agent deal this offseason with the A’s, has played catcher and outfield this season. He has a career .299 average in 11 minor league seasons.

Good news: Matt McBride, 32, has signed with the Phillies as a minor league free agent and will report to spring training in Clearwater next month with a shot to make the team.

If he doesn’t make it, he’d likely end up playing at Lehigh Valley, which would be pretty cool not only for the Bethlehem native, but his fans.

Make it back to the bigs, Matt!

I pray he can avoid injury, which has hampered him way too often.
