PORTLAND, ME – The Eastern League is pleased to announce the winners of the Eastern League Player of the Week Award
and Eastern League Pitcher of the Week Award for the week ending July 4th:
Akron Aeros first baseman/outfielder Matt McBride has been named the Eastern League Player of the Week for the
week ending July 4th. The 25-year old had an outstanding week for the Aeros, hitting .370 (10-for-27) with two doubles, six home
runs, nine RBI, seven runs scored, four walks and a 1.111 slugging percentage over seven games. The 6’2”, 215 lb. slugger put on
quite a display of power last week, homering in three straight games from June 30th-July 2nd, including going 3-for-4 with three home
runs and four RBI in a 5-0 win at Bowie on Thursday night. He also had at least one hit in each of the seven games he played in and
scored at least one run in five of those games. McBride, who is a native of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, led all Eastern League hitters in
home runs (6), total bases (30), slugging percentage (1.111) and OPS (1.563) last week. He also ranked second in extra-base hits (8)
and RBI (9) and tied for third in runs scored (7). Matt, who is batting .266 with 10 home runs, 41 RBI and 37 runs scored in 75 games
for the Aeros this season, was selected by the Cleveland Indians in the supplemental second round of the 2006 draft after hitting .417
with 12 home runs and 61 RBI during his junior season at Lehigh University.
