    MCBRIDE’S GRAND NIGHT LEADS AEROS TO WIN OVER SENATORS

    Matt McBride hit a go-ahead grand slam in the top of the third inning that proved to be the difference as the Akron Aeros won game one of a three-game series against the Harrisburg Senators 9-5 Friday at Metro Bank Park.

    McBride hit two home runs in the game and now has 11 on the season.

    Right-hander Austin Adams recorded the win the for the Aeros pitching five innings, giving up five runs (two earned) on five hits, walking three and striking out five. Right-handed pitcher Matt Langwell pitched two scoreless innings of relief to earn the save.

    Righty Tanner Roark was saddled with the loss for Harrisburg lasting just 2.2 innings, giving up seven earned runs on four hits, walking three and striking out three.

    The Senators (34-25) got on the board in the bottom of the first inning. Steve Lombardozzi led off with a single and stole second with one out. Chris Rahl singled him home to give Harrisburg a 1-0 lead. With two outs, Derek Norris walked and Bill Rhinehart reached on a Matt Lawson fielding error allowing Rahl to score. Archie Gilbert followed with a three-run home run to left field to give the Senators a 5-0 lead.

    The Aeros (29-33) answered back in the top of the third inning. Jordan Henry led off with a walk and advanced to second on a groundout. Kyle Bellows singled him home to cut the Senators lead to 5-1. With two outs, Juan Diaz doubled home Bellows to make it 5-2. Diaz came across to score on a Beau Mills RBI single cutting the lead to 5-3. Following the single, Chun Chen was hit by a pitch and Nick Weglarz walked to load the bases. McBride followed with a grand slam depositing a ball over the left field wall.

    Akron added a run in the top of the eighth inning on a Diaz sacrifice fly.

    McBride homered again in the top of the ninth inning as Akron went on to the win.
