February 9, 2011 at 4:01 pm #3243Tied for last while at the same time tied for 4th. Talk about parody! At this moment in time, only two teams have really separated themselves from the pack: BU and AU. Sure they meet tonight in what will be AU’s best chance to catch BU for the title, but there’s plenty on the line tonight for us and the other 5 teams in the league looking to gain a home court advantage in Playoff Game #1 on Wednesday, March 2nd. Take for example the matchup between LC and Colgate. Should CU win and go to 4-5, they’d join LC in 3rd along with two other teams: either LU or Navy along with either HC or Army. The battle for 3rd and 4th place will probably go down to the wire. Heck, should AU lose tonight (dropping to 6-3), they’d have only a one game cushion on LC for 2nd place were LC to beat CU tonight. Another thing to keep your eye on for the remaining 6 games in league play will be a comparison of "head-to-head" results (1st tie-breaker in establishing the final standings) and the importance of a series sweep. In the case of our Mountain Hawks, a win tonight would grant us a series sweep over Navy. The same could be said were we to be LC on Sunday, 2/19, and HC on 2/26 – the final day of the season. A similar scenario could be painted for each of the teams battling below the second line in the PL Standing. Who said parody is no fun? Aren’t you glad you signed-up for PL All-Access?
February 10, 2011 at 7:54 am #3245Glad to see LU got a win. They got it done. Ojo stepped up tonight. How about Hamilton huh? Good for the team and glad Reed finally decided to give him a chance. He will need everyone if he hopes to have a chance in the PL championship. I did not see Keefer on the floor tonight. Hope he is ok. It would be nice to see all the players back in the rotation as they make a run. Nice team work today.
I know BU has separated from the pack, but the PL championship is up for grabs.
During the televised game, it showed the areas the PL recruits were from. LU has 3 from the west coast, Hamilton, Adams, and Safstrom. Logie is also from the west coast. Logie recruited Hamilton and Adams. Maybe he is finally getting one of his recruits some playing time:).
For the record, Andoh and Adams former high school (Archbishop Mitty) are league champions again, will make it and possibly win state. One of their seniors, Kevin Toth, I hear has committed to Army after a year of prep school. Mitty is looking good! Lumpkins high school (Serra) is down slightly, but in the top 3.
Keep it up LU!

Since going 1-13 from deep against Bucknell, the team has hit on 19 of 48 (.395) from beyond the arc and won two of its three contests – dropping only a one point game to AU. That’s a marked improvement over the .276 3FG% mark set during the first six games of the season. Still, the team ranks last in the PL with only 5.1 Made 3’s/game and has only one player in the league’s Top 15 in terms of 3FG%. That’s Ojo at .395 (although .410 in all games played). All this and we’re still the highest scoring team in the league @ 74.6 ppg. Can you imagine what it would be if we began to hit our threes! We got a glimpse of it in the Navy game as Ojo and CJ were both "feeling it" and combined for 9 of 16. That good feeling had better continue for us as we are about to face the top five 3 pt. shooting teams in the league as we close out regular season play against: Army (3rd @ .348), Colgate (4th @ .340), Lafayette (1st @ .384, Bucknell (2nd @ .383), and Holy Cross (5th @ .325).
Team Play
Better perimeter ball movement and improved unselfish team play has been evident over that same HC-
AU-Navy stretch of games, as well. It has shown itself in a rise in our assist rate. Over the highlighted 3 games, the team assisted on 60.3% of it made field goals – a welcomed sight thinking back to the USC game where we recorded but 5 assists. In the Navy game alone, 21 assists were recorded with no less than seven players getting into the act. No wonder the team bench was so animated – some will say, "at last!" It has to have made for a fun bus ride home from Annapolis.
SweepsA biggie when it comes to determining the final PL standings, as "head-to-head" is the first tie-breaker. LU wasn’t the only ones to get a sweep last night. LC did it to CU, HC did it to Army, and BU did it to AU. While Bucknell is apparently running away with the title @ 8-1, nothing else is that sure. Lehigh can help itself by leveling the score with Army this weekend up at Christl Arena, having already lost to the Black Knights at home back on Jan. 15th. A win will give us a two game lead over Army. A win by Army – their 4th – and the resulting sweep of Lehigh, could mean trouble for us down the line.
