I am absolutely not certain about this, but it caught me by surprise and is a more than a little scary.
I saw a topic on a Houston fan board, which I couldn’t access, but it lead me to start doing some research. This pertains to social media and recruiting rules. If I’m understanding what I’ve found correctly, we as alumni and fans are considered “representatives of athletic interests”. And the rules are clear. RAIs absolutely cannot contact recruits on social media, in any way. I don’t know if or when this prohibition ends, if the recruit signs a letter of intent, etc.
But until we get somebody with some expertise, it sounds to me like we should not make ANY contact with recruits on twitter, facebook, etc. Here’s a relevant link from an Oregon site – see page 10:
