Friday ncaa finally tightened rules for waivers for immediate eligibility.
Now requires documentation of illness and 100 mile mile distance from home.
Should cut down on ridiculous raft of hardships.

It’s way overdue but at least a good first step.      Many of the “hardship” transfers never mentioned any sick relative – even to their closest friends – until they decided to transfer.   Then all of a sudden a “sick” grandmother pops up.    And in a number of cases, a prospective  transfer has looked at possibly transferring to schools a thousand miles away from home and then suddenly applied for the waiver when he ultimately decided to transfer to a local college.

One interesting waiver given recently was to American’s Austin Carroll.   Carroll transferred from Rutgers to American – a school further from his Massachusetts home than Rutgers.    He didn’t leave due to any coaching change or due to any Rutgers’ probation.   Yet the NCAA waived the sit-out year.    No idea why.
