Interesting comments by Any to Grolier.
He noted that we have 13 schollies with 11 commits and last 2 are being tardeted at DL. So no partials for next year. All full rides is a serious push to upgrade talent.

November 27, 2017 at 12:35 pm #33091THINGS WON’T BE MUCH DIFFERENT NEXT YEAR IF WE KEEP THE SAME DEFENSIVE COACHES. SO I LOOK FOR AN 0-3 START AND A STRUGGLE IN THE PATRIOT LEAGUE.
EITHER AD STERRETT FORCES COEN TO FIRE THE ENTIRE D STAFF OR I WILL QUESTION STERRETT’S COMMITMENT TO THE FOOTBALL PROGRAM. MAYBE WE NEED A NEW AD?
WHAT DO YOU GET WHEN YOU BUY SOMETHING ON CLEARANCE? GOODS THAT NOBODY ELSE WANTS. SAME HERE WITH OUR D COACHES. WE PAY LITTLE AND GET LESS IN RETURN.
WAS CLEAR TO ME THAT THE COACHES DO NOT KNOW HOW TO EVALUATE TALENT ON D. STARTED THE SEASON WITH #19 AND #39 AT LBs. NEITHER ONE WAS A REAL LB AND WE PAID FOR THAT. ONLY ONE GOT REPLACED WHILE THE OTHER GOT EMBARRASSED, REALLY NOTICEABLY IN THE LAST GAME. #52 WAS NOT ONE OF OUR BEST DL BUT PLAYED AHEAD OF OTHER DESERVING KIDS.
AS FOR SPECIAL TEAMS, WOULDN’T COMPLETELY BLAME THAT ON THE NEW COACH. HE WAS TOLD WHO TO PUT ON HIS TEAMS.
THE OFFENSE PLAYED WELL FOR THE MOST PART, AND FRANKLY, DESERVED BETTER. THE TALENT LEVEL BETWEEN US AND SB WAS RELATIVELY EVEN IF WE HAD THE RIGHT KIDS ON THE FIELD.
November 27, 2017 at 12:43 pm #3309214 seniors and 3 5th year guys leaving unless Q and Kelsey come back for 5th year, 13 does not replace 17 and roster is already not big, guess that leaves room for some walk ons
November 27, 2017 at 12:53 pm #33093Full rides bring in better talent.I hope. A plus but we do take a hit in roster size. Of the 11 verbals we have a LB and DE. Andy said last 2 are for DL. So D will rely on current roster to improve. A bit optimistic by Andy.
November 27, 2017 at 1:20 pm #33096I assume that we use the full number of scholarships that the PL allows? But does the PL allow the Max for FCS?
November 27, 2017 at 1:42 pm #33097No rich. PL max is 60.
My guess is Sasha is taking a 5th yr. Dont know about Q. Hope so. That would explain small class.
WRs will be good but there is no replacing Pelletier and Casey. O not likely to fall off that much but it will not be as strong.
OL will be OK. Fournier, Dixon Evans and Hawkinson Riccotilli all started. Ts will have Motley in for Duffy. Other T O’Carroll who did not see much PT. Expect Fris or Rivera will take that spot.
RB will be as good or better with Brags and Micco. Plus 2 3* s in Chadbourn and Allen.November 27, 2017 at 1:56 pm #33098Before I forget, the repeated bitching about hiring D 3 coaches is asinine. The vast majority of all the coaches during my time at Lehigh have been from D 3 . Higgins Lembo et al.

exactly, do we really think an excellent D1 coach is looking to further his career at Lehigh, look to D2 schools with guys moving up the career ranks, there are no doubt some good ones out there, think Folmer for example
November 27, 2017 at 3:42 pm #33104As I posted on the other thread, the receiving corps will not be as good next year, the O line has to be rebuilt, which could impact tbe run game. If there’s any drop off in offensive production (which as outstanding as it was could overcome the defense’s liabilities only to the tune of 5 wins) there’s more pressure on the defense.
The D must improve next year or 5 wins is a stretchNovember 27, 2017 at 6:28 pm #33105Looking ahead:
This year, with huge passing numbers from the QB, with the best back in the league and perhaps an all-time great at LU, plus two all-time great WRs, plus a big, experienced O Line, we struggled to a 5-6 record.
This is primarily due to weak defense (“historically weak”) and a not so special “special teams”.
Think about this: Even averaging huge yardage and points numbers, this team struggled to finish 5 and 6!
So going into 2018, the only real hope is that we can rebuild the O Line, and hope that the “defense” actually plays defense. Again, we are not asking for the ’85 Chicago Bears here…just “hold teams” to 400 yards, 28 points and stop letting bad teams run for 200+ yards.
The Georgetown and Lafayette games are great indicators of what I mean…Holy Crap! 30 + points to those terrible teams?
I don’t advocate firing anyone because that’s a terrible thing to say, but, in the real world, someone has to be held accountable for such horrific results. We are looking at just about the worst defense in the nation! Only one of the best ever offenses prevented an 0 -11 season!

The school has not had a really effective DC since Mr. Kotulski departed.
Although I thought the loss of OC Cecchini would be detrimental, it turns out that recruiting, coaching and in-game adjustments seem to be continuing at a fairly high level on that side of the ball. Also, players seem to develop from year one to year four, for the most part.
Defensively, it’s a dumpster fire, with descending results since midway in the 2013 season. Go ahead, look it up.
The slide started at Bucknell, with Fordham and Lafayette…(giving up 48+ points…)
It has gotten worse, and the fact that the team actually won back-to-back PL titles is a true testament to the Offense!
My continuing question is, “How do we seem to reload offensively, while we digress on the other side of the ball?”
Who’s responsible for this mess?
November 27, 2017 at 7:53 pm #33109FCS Defensive Rankings:
Bucknell (11) 295 yards per game (ypg)
Colgate (22) 317 ypg
Holy Cross (62) 368 ypg
Lafayette (65) 376 ypg
Georgetown (70) 378 ypg
Lehigh (119) 478 ypgdo you really think Bucknell’s recruiting on the defensive side of the ball is that much better than Lehigh’s?
November 27, 2017 at 7:59 pm #33110Bucknel has used same system for awhile. Unlike us they did not have a 4 yr gap in recruiting talent or 4 yrs of rotating DCs non of whom stopped the slide. We did it to ourselves BU dixnt. Simple. Turn it around to offense. BU has had a pathetic O over that same period. Some good players but cant score points. Ask Bison fans why.
November 27, 2017 at 8:08 pm #33111Two top 25 defenses and Lehigh beat them both. If Lehigh had any kind of defense, they may have gone undefeated. Only once did they score fewer than four touchdowns and yet were 5-7
November 27, 2017 at 8:18 pm #33112not sure what 4 year gap RichH is referring to in post above, but Bucknell happens to be 1 of 5 examples I could have used to show how bad our defense is.
you can’t tell me that Georgetown recruits better players than Lehigh on the D side of the ball, and they gave up 100 ypg less than us.
