Just refamiliarized myself with the Big South Conference. What an awful group of teams that is, wow.
March 31, 2015 at 3:37 am #19188I’d agree that it wouldn’t be a great career move for the good doctor. With the young talent, one more big run – without CJ, as others have pointed out – seems like the better path. If he can pull that off, I think an A10 or even a Penn St.-level deal isn’t unrealistic. But, I’m thinking with my heart again too. I don’t know the game well enough to be too hard on his Xs & Os, but I think he’s done really well on the recruiting front. And that’s probably our biggest challenge.
Swallowing the bitter pill now – if he does go, and we don’t get Logie – is Kroogs next up?
March 31, 2015 at 3:58 am #19189Anybody have any idea what Liberty is paying Turner Gill to coach football team. He was getting $2M per year during his disastrous run at Kansas.
March 31, 2015 at 4:05 am #19190Gill a darn good coach. Not making that at Liberty.:)
March 31, 2015 at 4:11 am #19191From what I can find, his base is somewhere at or above the 400,000 to 450,000 range.
March 31, 2015 at 12:06 pm #19192Won’t be surprised to see J.C. Show follow Paulsen to GMU.
March 31, 2015 at 12:45 pm #19194Just remember that Liberty is not staying in the Big South for long, they will move up as soon as someone lets them in.
March 31, 2015 at 2:59 pm #19197If Gill’s base is only $400-450K, then I’m mistaken on Reed at $500K+. The money might not be a huge difference. Maybe he jumps to $300K, which is big raise, but not a multiplier raise. Gill has been good at Liberty, but when he coached in FBS he was well below .500 at both places, Buffalo (20-30 overall, and 14-18 in the MAC) and Kansas (5-19 overall, and 1-16 in Big 12).

April 7, 2015 at 2:32 am #19341American has 3 little used players transferring, George Langberg, Langford Neal and Justice Montgomery. There could be any # of reasons for leaving including PT. When one gets to the higher power conferences, the scholarships are literally year to year. If you don’t perform, they take them back and recruit more players. I had always hoped the PL was above that. I have absolutely no information on it but could American be cleaning house. 3 is a big # without a coaching change? Just wondering.
April 7, 2015 at 2:40 am #19342Two of the three AU players who are leaving are non-scholarship. Only Montgomery had a scholarship.
April 7, 2015 at 2:45 am #19343Wow and BU has 2 transferring out and that was before Paulsen left. I also wonder are some HCs pulling schollies? I doubt they are but unusual numbers this year.
April 7, 2015 at 3:01 am #19344I don’t think any scholarships are being pulled. I know they weren’t at Bucknell, and it is not allowed. There were certainly none pulled at HC, and I doubt the one scholarship was pulled at AU (although there were rumors about Jeff Jones pulling one a few years ago).
April 14, 2015 at 4:53 pm #19415This may be old news, but I see Cole Renninger is transferring. To a lower level to get some playing time?
April 14, 2015 at 5:11 pm #19416That is our speculation, 137. But the Goodman article is the first “official” source we’ve seen, so not a lot of info to share.
April 15, 2015 at 3:03 pm #19418This transferring business – a byproduct of the times, or a byproduct of scholarships? Personally I can’t decide. My gut feel is it’s a product of the times, as the athletes themselves see the scholarships as a roster spot instead of an education, which is sad.
