All and all Lehigh played pretty well. Penn is definitely struggling but they do have some good individual players.
The front seven again played well imo. Secondary is what it is and will get burned by better passing offenses.
Shaf and the offense was overall very good given some of the dinged players. It was nice to see TP break out and Brisker had a solid game.
The next two weeks are against teams that are, imo, in the top half of FCS. A 4-1 OOC record is definitely possible. Not sure I’d bet money on it though…lol

Go Lehigh TU Owl.
September 19, 2015 at 8:10 pm #21894Pretty much agree. Split next 2 would be OK,better if we can sweep heading into Bucknell and Fordham
September 19, 2015 at 8:21 pm #21895YES! We needing that soooo bad! If we all see #1 struggling, do the coaches? Penn picked on him all day. I’d play the Redmond kid, he just makes plays when he gets the opportunity. If we get past Princeton…..look out PL!
September 19, 2015 at 8:29 pm #21896Rigaud was toast all day. Torgeson could have lived over there. Other side,Leaks toasted once but overall not terrible. Safeties prtty good game. In a 1 over the top on pass over Leaks. S picked wrong side to fade to.
Penn not great but we dominated them. Tigers and Elis much better.
O ,some hiccups but a very good game. Nick actually stood in there and made his reads .OL much better. Brisker quite impressive. Brags was doing very well himself. Hopw we have both vs Princeton.September 19, 2015 at 8:31 pm #21897DJ and Harris both on crutches. Neither looked promising. Jack is gonna have his hands full. Hopefully Cavenas is back next week. Redmond looked great on KO returns.
September 19, 2015 at 8:35 pm #21899DJ looks out for a while Harris ? Missed him getting hurt. Nice to have depth unlike last year. Lots of guys stepped up. Johnson really impressed with his rush,he is fast.
September 19, 2015 at 8:45 pm #21900Harris was hurt on the initial kick return.
After watching my first game of the year, I had no problem with the play calling. There was a good mix of pass and run. The FB was involved. I think the TE had a catch. Nick did a fine job going through his progressions and even extending plays. What is need now is the WR to recognize this and come back to the ball. Nick did a phenomenal job IMHO disguising hand offs. This may be more of a refection on me but I watched the wrong guy at least 6 times during the game :-).
I had this unexplained urge to go to the snack stand though every time the defense came on the field. Even when they were successful, I kept having this feeling that it could all blow up on the next play. Perhaps not having any idea what Penn would throw at us today was partly responsible and they were kinda funky but tackling is still terrible.
Last point. I may be the only one who cares about this but there was the same lack of emotion on the sideline as last year. Football is a game of emotion.September 19, 2015 at 8:53 pm #21901Not just you TMH. TV guys missed some also. Did find things to do around the house when D came in in the 1st half.
Going to watch again later.September 19, 2015 at 9:20 pm #21902It is hard to believe we have no one to put in for either corner. They are both beaten way to often for Lon passes or just moving the chains. 1 could not get off the tackle on the screen Penn ran on consecutive plays twice. Once we finally did stop it with the safety I was waiting for the “set up” play, but penn probably saved it since the game was out of reach.
I still think the play calling was very basic. The third down play with the TE in motion to right and hand off behind the motion, please is there some variation. CCSU read that after we ran it for the fourth time, And yes Penn watches tape.
The FB was only used because Crawford (a FB) play tailback. I saw no 2 back sets. No RB screens. Penn was stuffing the bad as everyone will. In my opinion the offense looked good based on just having more talent.
September 19, 2015 at 9:53 pm #21903As to CBs,to quote LG,it couldn’hurt to get Redmond and Montgomery a shot.
We did run a few 2 back sets with KC at FB. O scheme was not vanilla today. Some flares to Bragalone and KC. Ruhl got a pass. Notice they use Bucklin with KC and MB like an Hback. A puzzle why no RB screens. Pards about to start, want to see Tigers.September 19, 2015 at 10:22 pm #21904My grades for the day:
Offense: B+ Would have been an A, but:
— The two failed runs on third or fourth and short were way too slow developing.
— I didn’t see any planned, successful throws downfield. Are Penn’s DBs really that good? Nick did pretty good job today. I’m spoiled by Lum expectations.
Liked what I saw in running game. Can’t complain too much about play calling this week. Much better, but … Where has Soccaras been for two years? Very impressive.
Special teams: A
— Raye-Redmond run was exciting. Hope to see more of him. Christiano has looked really good past two weeks.
— Mish looks like real deal. Can’t wait to see him on longer FGs. Devine good again.
Defense: C-
— Yielded 476 yards (Are we going to have to deal with this weekly — AGAIN?)
— Penn got only 21 points, but if we complain about our play calling, Penn’s was really bad today. First-game jitters?
— DBs smoked regularly; tackles missed regularly. Sadly — as others have pointed out, we trot the same guys out there each week an expect different results? Why not try some backup WRS at DB?
— Some good rushes on QB saved the day. Front seven inconsistent, but did not break; stepped up when it needed to.
September 19, 2015 at 11:06 pm #21907Penn DBs were playing off quite a bit so throws down the field were just not there other than the one busted coverage pass to Pelletier
September 19, 2015 at 11:12 pm #21908To interject,Princeton a much much better team. Their D particularly. Pards are blah to be polite. Reed not the same QB. Zero running attack. They do have a very solid secondary. A novel aspect, they finish tackles.
September 20, 2015 at 12:48 am #21909Question. Participation lists TC with a tackle. He played?
Princeton destroying Pards.
September 20, 2015 at 1:49 am #21911looking at box score you would think game was pretty close, big difference was D getting off the field on 3rd down and us having pretty good 3rd down performance, solid running game made for a lot of manageable 3rd downs, on to Tigger who looked pretty darn stout against Pards today
