Wondering why Lehigh wrestles Penn State? Most matches were simply not competitive and in several instances the Lehigh wrestlers were embarrassed by the Penn State wrestler. At some point they need to realize it’s counter productive.

totally disagree, other than 157 where we had a sub in for Kutler and 184 where we have a FR, the matches were very competitive, PSU a traditional opponent, returning national champ and #1 ranked, PSU guys are very, very good, no shame in losing to them

go back to the Lafayette board Buck

Interestingly, Penn State chooses to wrestle only one opponent at the Bryce Jordan Center each year. They chose Lehigh and they drew between 12,000-15,000 depending on who you believe. The latter was the announced attendance.
It’s early in their season but no other team has scored double digits against them. In order to be the best, you have to wrestle the best.

Have to disagree buck. PSU is better. We knew that going in. On a neutral mat with all our starters a fairly even matchup. Perhaps not a W but competitive. PSU o long time rival. See no reason to avoid them now just because they are better. We have a lot of talent but right now much of it is young.

Counterproductive to face competitors far better? Buck, these wrestlers are 18 to 23 years old, not 5. They need to face the best to continue to strive to be the best. “We want national champions.” Didn’t that used to be on wrestling room wall?

Our stated goal is to recruit and develop All Americans and national champions. Absolutely important to wrestle the best if you hope to be the best. And as van points out, we were as competitive as anyone else so far.

Further, both Rec Hall/Bryce and Stabler are located in high school wrestling hot beds, perfect for both PSU and Lehigh recruiting. Great exposure for our unique academic/athletic college experience going toe to toe versus the behemoth state school athletic factory.

Minotti could have beaten Joseph at 165. The pin at 149 was a fluke, should have been a somewhat competitive decision, maybe a major. Right about Kutler too. The only class were thin at is 197 with Jacobsen redshirting, and Vollaro is a solid wrestler, but not what Jordan Wood will be.

Future is very bright. PSU is a five time team champ and clobbers all comers. The kids scrapped and got a good ‘education’ out there in a very adverse environment. Great experience for NCAAs. With Minotti and Kutler we win another and lose closer. I had thought ahead of time if we could win five, but still lose match due to bonus points, would be great. Missing Minotti nixed that. Disappointed that Darien got caught in a six point move from which he could not recover. Suriano is a true beast..has yet to lose in his life. Also, hate thinking that Retherford almost came to Lehigh. smh.

Princeton Friday night and Chris Ayres. Many believe Ayres will take over for Santoro at some point.
