As mentioned above, one of the best indicator of early contributions is their strikeout rate in high school. Woltersdorf other numbers are great, but striking out 65 in 78 innings isn’t overpowering at the high school level.
Compared to the senior seasons of the last class of freshmen pitchers:
Hand – 88k in 64 IP or 12.4 per 9 innings
Reynolds – 70k in 51 IP or 12.36 per 9
Stoudt – 65k in 50 IP or 11.8 per 9
Obviously that isn’t adjusted for level of competition, but gives some context to Woltersdorf number of 7.5 k’s per 9. Hopefully Pete’s numbers are incorrect or irrelevant, and he contributes immediately.
