P Peter Woltersdorf, Hunterdon Central, Jr.

Woltersdorf was the workhorse on the mound for a Hunterdon Central team that captured the Group IV championship. Pitching in the Group IV final against Morristown, Woltersdorf tossed six sparkling innings, allowing two runs on nine hits and no walks while striking out five. The left-hander set new school records in wins (11), complete games (12) and innings pitched (78.1). Woltersdorf also finished the season with a 0.80 ERA and 65 strikeouts, the third most in school history

Left hander? Profile had him as a righty. Oh well, either way a good pitcher.

Pete was recently named POY in the Skyland Conference and 1st Team A/S in New Jersey. He may be an immediate impact guy next season.

Have you seen him pitch?
Perfect Game had him timed at 87 mph and I believe that was prior to his junior year. His SO to innings ratio is good and he appears to get people out on a regular basis.

I’ve not seen him throw though.

As mentioned above, one of the best indicator of early contributions is their strikeout rate in high school. Woltersdorf other numbers are great, but striking out 65 in 78 innings isn’t overpowering at the high school level.

Compared to the senior seasons of the last class of freshmen pitchers:
Hand – 88k in 64 IP or 12.4 per 9 innings
Reynolds – 70k in 51 IP or 12.36 per 9
Stoudt – 65k in 50 IP or 11.8 per 9

Obviously that isn’t adjusted for level of competition, but gives some context to Woltersdorf number of 7.5 k’s per 9. Hopefully Pete’s numbers are incorrect or irrelevant, and he contributes immediately.

Only time will tell how successful any of these pitchers will be but as for arm strength, only Reynolds (of the 3 you mentioned) was clocked at 87 mph in high school. Hand and Stoudt were both in the 84 mph range.
In college, everyone can hit the fastball. Location and movement are the real indicators for success. I want them all to be successful.
